Lack of Sex Drive Because of Bc?
Posted: 10-02-07 21:36pm

My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost 3 years now. Our sex life is great except for the fact that she rarely wants to have any. When we were first dating she was on the depo shot. She has recently switched to the pill because of the bad side effects associated with the shot. She has been on the pill now for maybe a year and a half. Ever since she has been on the pill her sex drive has gone down drastically.

Im curious to find out if it is the pill that is doing it. And also if there are other types of BC that dont cause this to happen. Or if there are any type of pills or supplements to help this problem...Were both not sure which way to go. She is planning on scheduling an appointment with her doctor to possibly switch BC's to fix this problem.

Does anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? Shocked

Hey i was on the pill for 4 years i stopped taking bc all together last month our sex drive has shoot up like you wouldnt belive, I'm blaming the pill as well why i never wanted to have sex. At the moment we are just using condoms not 100% i know but myself and my partner are to worried if i get pregnant. Im 11 days late for my period this month already. i think it could be a side affect from not taking the pills or im pregnant. Which one i still dont know. As for supplements maybe you should go back to the doctors and just explain that your not getting on with the pill, use an excuse like you keep forgetting to take it if you dont want to talk about your sex life, im sure there are many different opions out there, maybe your girlfriend might get on with the coil?
Hope this helps, ~S~

yes it can effect your sex drive. i was like your gf. i was on the depo than switched to the pill and had NO sex drive. it was really awful for me and my bf at the time. it was like if i dont even want sex why am i even taking this stupid pill Smile very annoying. anyways every ones body reacts diffrently to pills so she may find another one that doesnt have that effect on her.. bad news is it may take awhile to find one....

I have that problem now. Anthony is always wanting sex when I'd rather just roll over and sleep.
Are any of you on Mirena? Does anyone know if Mirena can effect sex drive?

I don't know if that's a common effect of mirena because there's no estrogen in it. When I was on Mirena, I was horny all the time. I was also hungry all the time, lol.

But the pill can definitely cause a decrease in sex drive. The answer might be as simple as switching to a different brand of pill, since they all have slightly different levels of hormones. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all your help. =)

I looked up a couple different kinds of BC and for the most part Alesse seems to be the one that has the least amount of complaints. They claim to have the lowest amount of estrogen. So when she has her appointment in November shes going to ask about that.
