Suffocation!
Posted: 10-05-07 01:42am

hi..I've got a serious ENT problem for the last 4 years. I am unable to breathe as my nose always stays closed even though it is dry without excess mucus. Also any nasal sprays do not help or just help for 2-3 hours. As a result i feel extremely suffocated. I also get a feeling of my ears pushing out and that they are about to burst. This has slightly affected my hearing and i also tend to speak loudly to be able to clearly hear myself! Throat always stays bad and i have difficulty speaking. I have been to various doctors but unfortunately none of their medications seem to be working. I underwent an adenoids operation about 5 years ago and the problem has kept worsening every year, more so this year. I just don't know what to do as feeling suffocated and unable to breathe is a very tough situation to be in. Please help me..

How old are you?

Have you been tested for food allergies?

I have had the same problem of not being able to get air though my nose.
I have had my nasal turinates surgically reduced and for a while that helped but for the last 2 or 3 years I have been getting worse again. I went to my ENT a few months ago and she said that the internal nasal valves in my nose are to small and also tend to collapse when I inhale.
There is a surgical proceedure that can open up those valves so I might give that a try.
I use breath rite nasal strips that you can buy at the drug store and they help some a night time.
Unlike you I also produce a lot of mocous which adds to my problem.
My chest hurts from trying to breath through my nose do you have that too. Please feel free to send as many messages to me as you want, maybe we can figue out how to solve our nasal problem.

Oh Thanks for your concern vtx1300 we both know how important is the need to help each other and share ideas in such matters.
I was lucky enough to finally get to a good ENT 2 weeks ago, he has informed me that i primarily have two problems( as far as he sees them!);
1. Tissues in my nasal cavity, behind my ears and nose are inflamed and dominantly blocking air flow to my body.
2. I also have a deviated septum which restricts airflow too.

I have improved quite a bit in the last few days and am using Neogastro antacid chewable tablets that i think are similar to those that you might be using. Apart from that i have tonnes of tablets to be taken for some time before i visit him again shortly. How are you feeling right now? And does this problem ever make u feel mentrally incapable at times especially when breathing is very difficult?
Cheers

hi rohitpohani

Glad to hear your feeling better and that the ENT has diagnosed your problem.
I'm doing a little better at the present but I need to get my nose and acid reflux problems corrected.
I went to my ENT last week and I am going to have my nasal passages operated on in December. This should hopefully make my breathing more normal. I saw my gastroenterologest today and am going to get schdualed to have acid reflux surgury to stop stomach acid from coming up into my throat.
Yes when I can't breath normally thourgh my nose it makes it hard to lead a normal life both mentally and physically. Hope all goes well for us both.

Cheers
