Q: Is Smoking Weed Ok When Pregnant?

i know most people think that weed is a mad drug, but really marijuana is a herb/plant that grows in the ground, and relaxes your mind and body giving you a nice feeling.

Im a marijuana smoker and was wondering if its ok to do while pregnant (not saying that i would do it if i was pregnant)

a friend of mine had told me that when she was pregnant, she went to get doctor and asked if it was ok and he said that a little is ok but not too often and not alot.

i think its a really stupid question, no drug, any drug is ok. whatever you smoke, drink, and eat your baby has too via the placenta. If you want to "relax" your growing child, go ahead but smoking weed during pregnancy has been linked to low birth weight, a baby addicted to the nicotine in a joint, and the obvious starving your baby of oxygen and making it high. Not a good idea...

First of all, smoking anything during pregnancy deprives the fetus of oxygen. Just as smoking tobacco is discouraged in pregnant women, so is smoking marijuana. Smoking any type of substance interferes with the fetus's blood supply. This can mean the fetus doesn't get enough oxygen, and s/he may be born smaller in both weight and length. Smaller babies have a higher risk of other problems after birth, such as infections, severe jaundice, difficulty feeding, breathing problems, low blood sugar, difficulty regulating temperature, bleeding into the brain, and problems with vision.

Secondly, marijuana is frequently and unpredictably "cut" with other substances. So the fetus may be unintentionally exposed to other potentially harmful substances in addition to marijuana.

Marijuana can also be transmitted through breast milk. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC (the main active ingredient in marijuana), can be as much as 8 times higher in breast milk than in the mother's bloodstream. Babies whose mothers have used marijuana during pregnancy or while breastfeeding sometimes seem jittery and difficult to comfort. They may have some delay in the development of their motor skills, although studies have concluded that this delay may not be permanent. In any case, it is advisable not to smoke marijuana while breastfeeding.

Since we're on the subject of substance use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, if you already drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, it's in your baby's (and your) best health interests to stop when you are pregnant. During the nursing period, it's commonly recommended that mothers drink only modest amounts of alcohol, delay breastfeeding for 2 - 3 hours after drinking alcohol, and avoid exposing the baby to second-hand smoke.

It should be noted that much of the research on the effects of prenatal exposure to marijuana has been complicated and inconclusive. This is mainly because it is difficult to isolate the effects of marijuana from other possible factors such as alcohol, other drug use, socioeconomic status, family structure, and mother's personality. All in all, the healthiest choice for you and your baby is to avoid using recreational chemicals, including marijuana, while pregnant. As difficult as it may be to change one's lifestyle, taking a break from smoking cigarettes and joints, and drinking alcohol and using other drugs, can help set your baby up for a long, healthy life.

Wow.

Put the weed down. Chew gum or something. Smoking pot is not attractive, and you wouldn't want to do something that could have an affect on your baby.

So, because weeds are 'natural', I can eat anything that grows out of the ground and be fine?

That is really silly thinking, sweetie. There are poisons in all sorts of plants. Natural doesn't mean 'healthy'.

How about you put down the pot pipe before you become a mom, mkay? Thanks.

Yes, everyone wants Timothy Leery as their own personal doctor...

Hey! I have an idea, how about you ask the first police officer you see if it is 'safe' for you to smoke pot while your pregnant and then ask him why it isn't... Because someone's doctor told them something about how it was ok.

I NEVER SAID I WAS PERSONALLY GONNA SMOKE WEED WHILE PREGNANT!
a friend of mine who was pregnant said her doctor said it was ok.
I wasnt gonna jump the gun and just do it cuz a friend said its ok thats why i POSTED IT ON HERE GENIUS to see what others had TO SAY ABOUT IT. not HARP ON ME ABOUT SMOKING WEED WHILE PREGNANT!!
BECAUSE 1 I AM NOT GOING TO SMOKE WEED WHILE PREGNANT, AND I DONT EVEN KNOW IF I AM! im not the one you should be saying this to, cuz i never have and never will do this while pregnant, my friend did.

I'll believe you that you were only asking because you are curious. In my opinion I think that your friend is a selfish liar who lied so that the people around her that don't have common sence wouldn't bother her about smoking pot while pregnant.

Oh, so you don't smoke pot? I thought you said you did.

I said put down the pot pipe BEFORE you become a mom. Which is inclusive of pregnancy.

You are the one who said you did smoke it. You did not say you were pregnant. Which was why I said BEFORE!

Did you read what I wrote?

i said i am a marijuana smoker yes.

But not that i was the one smoking while pregnant. if i were to get pregnant i will stop because i know of the harmful risks it can have on a baby, i was asking if what this doctor said was true. my friends doctor was the one who said this not mine..i dont even have a family doctor.
