Basic reason? To continue on the species.
Other reasons normally include they WANT
to.
There are enough humans that we don't ALL
need to continue the species. So that
leaves child bearing reason #2: WANT. And
if you don't WANT to, then you don't have
to.

I first came face to face with abortion
when I was 20 years old and living away
from home at university. I had a friend
who I later realised was using me (but
that's another story). This friend had a
fiance that she was cheating on with
another man and she wasn't using
protection. I warned her that she'd end
up getting pregnant, she even had a scare
at one point but she wouldn't listen.
Inevitably she ended up with a positive
test in her hand. She told me
nonchalantly that she was going to get an
abortion. I was angry at her. I felt
that she had purposely created a life just
to destroy it. She had no intention of
having a baby and yet did nothing to
prevent it. She asked me to accompany her
to the hospital to have her medical
abortion and I refused; I wanted no part
in the event and told her that her 'other
man' should be the one to take her.
Thinking back with a more mature head, the
girl obviously had some kind of emotional
problems because she was constantly
attention seeking. The abortion was just
another way to be centre of attention.
My next brush with abortion was when my
mother and I read my late grandmother's
medical notes and discovered she had an
abortion (via hysterectomy) at 18 weeks.
That shocked me. My grandmother's mental
health took a sharp decline after the
abortion and she developed OCD to the
level that she thought she was killing
children just by being near them.
So, with those two events as my main
experiences of abortion, I came to ehealth
as a pro-lifer. I did not have (and still
don't have) any religious beliefs but I
just felt that abortion was wrong, cruel
and damaging to both women and babies.
Now, after lurking and then actively
participating in the debate here I have
come to a different conclusion. I still
don't 'like' abortion. It bothers me that
a human life is destroyed but I can't say
why because I also believe that there is
nothing special about humans other than
that we are highly evolved animals.
Obviously, because of the nature of our
social and familial relationships with
each other, we place high value on born
human life.
I would consider myself pro-choice now
because I do not wish to control the
choices of other women. I can empathise
with women who have an abortion (even my
university friend) although I don't always
agree with the reasons. Abortion still
makes me uncomfortable and I don't think I
could ever have an elective abortion (as
opposed to a medically necessary one) but
then, I don't know the future.
Circumstances change and we have to make
our decisions based on our lives at that
time.
Anyway, that was rather long so have a
banana if you managed to get to the end of
it!

have
children? |
Either because they were too dumb to use a
condom, because they can't find anything
better to do with their lives (you don't
need to be smart to be a parent, sadly),
or because they think their genes are
somehow elite and feel they are obligated
to create offspring.
But as far as the original topic, I never
really became pro-choice or pro-life. I
knew what abortion was and I was thrilled
it was an option (me not wanting children
since I was one myself, I felt relaxed
knowing if I got pregnant I wouldn't need
to kill the thing myself). I am a big
believer in second (or third) chances, and
abortion has the power to grant them to
the woman.
What really shocked me was learning there
was an actual debate over the issue and
that there were people who exist who are
actually dumb enough to not want the
practice to exist. What shocked me even
more is that most people who are out to
obliterate this important women's right
are also women. If the anti-choicers want
to be barefoot and pregnant and serving as
the maid/sex toy and just regress back
about sixty years, then fine...but not all
of us want to be submissive little slaves.

If you didn't want an answer then Blonde
don't ask a question. I personally have no
clue why you care what anyone swears by.
First you want to control my body now you
want to control what I write?
What exactly do you define freedom as?
Because I think we are using two seperate
definitions here.. I think you jumped at
the first thing you thought was a way to
get a dig in on me and pwn'd yourself
because you failed to read and comprehend
what was written.

Next time you are shocked when you find
out a family member aborted, remember that
every other woman you ever come into
contact with has aborted or will abort.
Also, I doubt your grandmother's OCD was
caused by a hysterectomy/abortion.
Think of how many people would have OCD.
Every time you think you hear a condition
that was caused by abortion, look around.
If half of all women or at least a good
percentage don't have it, it's doubtful
abortion caused it.
