must have been lying through their teeth. Tell me everyone. Do your Braxton Hicks literally hurt. I have to stop and breathe really deep when I get them. I was told that it wouldn't hurt-just feel tightening. Comments would be appreciated.

Yes, they can hurt. But after you go through labor, you'll forget all about these sporactic contractions. I promise...

God, I realize that what I wrote sounds like it belittles what you are experiencing. I did not mean for it to sound that way at all.

YES! They do hurt. But remember it is your uterus toning itself up for the Big Day Smile And a good time to practice that breathing and relaxation.

Drink more water.

You actaully shouldn't feel these. THey're similar to charlie horses. But in your stomach. lol

Up your water in take and they SHOULD decrease!

I"m glad I haven't experienced them!!! But I drink TONS of water...well Crystal Light which is 97% water! lol!!

my first set i thought I was in actual labor drove all the way to the hospital for them to check and my cx had changed but I wasn't actually in "labor" Went to the doc. the next day and was gave something to make the contractions stop. Check with your doctor (I'm sure you have) because they might not be just the braxton hicks.

I felt them too, but it was more like tightening. Sometimes a bit sharp, but nothing awful. It's different for everyone.
Do make sure you keep track of them. You shouldn't have more than so many an hour and if you do you need to call your OB/GYN STAT!

I don't know what to tell my doctor. I go in tomorrow morning for my 24 week check up. I just haven't felt right the past few days. I've had a lot of pain and pressure in my cha cha (sorry I don't really like the word vagina). I've been getting Braxton Hicks since I was like 17 weeks. They were few and far between before. Now I get at least one every day, but man yesterday I had like two back to back. There was seriously like 2 minutes in between them. It scared the crap out of me. I try to just not worry about it. My mom told me that she had contractions all throughout her pregnancy with me and my little brother. I seem to be following in her pattern. Really, the pressure bothers me more than the contractions. I wish my doctor would just check me to make me feel better but I don't want to feel like I'm being pushy either. I know how doctors sometimes think about us crazy nursing students who think we know everything. I've just been worried.

Dont worry about what you doctor thinks, be pushy with him if thats what it takes! If you are generally really concerned something must be said!!

Good luck hey!!!Smile

I just don't know what's normal and what's not. Should I feel pressure like that at 24 weeks? I don't know. I know I'm carrying her low. The doc even said that I had a low lying placenta but that it shouldn't cause any problems.

A few weeks ago i had some pressure and a slight ache in my "cha cha" ! at times it felt like gracie was going to fall out!! All i did was ring the maternity ward at the hospital. Thats something you could do if you dont feel right explaining in to your doctor.

I personally would say something. Your not to know if this normal or not, that his job!!!!

I'm sure everything is fine!! Smile but for your own peice of mind say something to someone.....just in case!!!

good luck Smile

It really is hard to say what ''normal'' is because what may be normal for you may not be for someone else. If I were you I would make sure that my doc does an internal exam. That way you know for sure if everything is alright. All women have very different pain tolerances not to mention the fact that these feelings are also very new for you.

HAHA! It can be normal.

I had the worst possible pains when I was about 28 weeks pregnant with my daughter. My doctor sent me to the hospital to get monitored and guess what? It was irritable uterus! Whenver I'd get BH and the baby would move, it hurt.

It can't hurt to tell your doctor that you are feeling a little full and pressure-y in your hoo-hah. (And don't worry, they hear it all the time!)

If you have more than 4 contractions in an hour though, call your doctor as soon as possible.

Remember, you pay your doctor. Your doctor works for you! Smile

Thanks Ingi! I haven't been having more than four in an hour lately. I did one day though. I had like five or six in an hour and I called the office. A nurse called me back and said there is no set number that was okay or not okay to have, which I totally don't agree with. I'm going to ask my doc about that tomorrow because I knew it didn't sound right. I drank like a liter of water and took a two hour nap though and they went away that day. I don't know. I'm just going to tell him and see if he thinks he should check me. It might just make me feel a little more at ease.

He may not 'check' you (for dilation if that is what you mean). I'm sure he will do something.

And that nurse is crazy! 4 contractions you can feel in an hour when you are not full term and you are supposed to call. Please ask your doctor about this, ok?

Mine never hurt me, they were a little uncomfortable when i was walking but never actually painful. The only time they hurt was when i went into hospital to be induced and thought i'd been having some strong BH's but they were actually real contractions so i can't really help lol. My sister was in agony with hers though

My nurses and doc. always listened to me. The one time that I had a nurse to refuse to listen to me I refused to leave until she a.) got me a nurse that would listen to me b.) got a doctor in there to talk to me or c.) called the cops. I was actually in labor at the time. I knew something was not right with myself and with the baby as she was a very very active baby. I also also amazed that the next time I went back to the doc. that the nurse that would not listen to me was no longer there. You know your body and what is "normal" for you if you do not feel right tell the doc. and if he/she does not listen find another one that will.
