Arm Position While Taking Blood Pressure Lying Down Posted: 10-19-07 16:49pm
I have been trying to find how to hold
your arm while lying down and taking BP.
Do you have your arm parallel to your
body, just lying next to your side?
or
Do you hold it straight out perpendicular
to your body?
I get much different readings from these
two, maybe both methods are wrong.
Thanks

Are you measuring at the same time
everyday ( in the morning or when you are
relaxed)?
Are you always measuring on the same arm?
Are you feeling tense when you are
measuring the bp?
If you are measuring your blood pressure
while lying, you should lie on a back and
your arm is placed parallel next to your
body.
During measuring, you should look straight
up to the ceiling and you mustn't move
your neck or your body.

Thank you very much for the reply.
I will try it that way. I always got the
lower numbers doing it that way.
Just found out that I mild hypertension.
My numbers were averaging 130/75 at home.
At the Dr office it would be like 160/90.
I have been taking BP med for 5 weeks, and
my home averages are 115 /66. So I think
it is doing good. I go back to Dr this
week. Hoping my numbers are down while in
his office.
Again, thanks for responing, I am just
nervous about this, never have had health
issues before.

Your readings of 130/75 fall into
prehypertension category.
Do you always get such a high readings
160/90 when you are at doctor's office?
Do you feel very anxious when you need to
visit your doctor?
Have you been suggested to have 24 hours
blood pressure monitor?
It sounds to me that you are experiencing
white coat hypertension.
