Marijuana Withdrawal Or Depression? Posted: 10-20-07 17:00pm
I had been smoking marijuana 2-3 times a
week for a few months when I was with
friends. About 2 months ago, I started
buying my own for when I was by myself. I
began smoking daily for a few weeks
because I normally have anxiety and
marijuana relaxes me. However, I am a
minor who is unemployed so I don't have a
lot of money. I decided to stop smoking
marijuana because I don't have the money
to spend on it, but also because I don't
want to become dependent on it.
I haven't smoked in a week, and I've been
extremely depressed and I cry for no
reason. I am not getting along with my
family and I notice that little things
annoy me that didnt before. I have
suffered from depression problems in the
past and just got off of a medication for
it. (I was on a really low dose. I used to
take over 100mg but they lowered it
gradually and I was taking one 37.5mg
every 2 days.)
My question is:
Is it marijuana withdrawal or is this
Depression? (or a combination?)

in recent studies, it has been shown that
marijuana is an anti-depressant because of
the happy relaxing sensation it gives
people when they smoke it.
However, if you smoke it on a regular
basis (which i would say would probably be
a gram or a half gram a day, right) it can
give you withdrawls and make you feel
depressed when you stop smoking it.
Because its an anti-depessant, it should
be smoked only a little at a time, like a
regular anti-depressant medication.
But, there has also beed a study people
who smoke marijuana and suffer from
depression or other disorders are more
likely to be set off when they do not have
a drug, and thats not only for marijuana
thats for all drugs too.
Marijuana has become dependent on you even
though you dont want it to be. You said
you suffer from depression and jsut got
off anti-depressants, well marijuana has
become the depressant for your pills
basically.
I suffer from depression, but i dont take
meds for it i stopped taking them cuz i
thought they made it worse and stick to
smoking marijuana, But if you dont want to
become dependant on it and stillwant to
continue smoking occasionally, i'd go to
your doctor and tell him openly that you
smoke marijuana ocassionally and are
wondering if you should get back on the
medication or if you should stop smoking
it. The doctor wont tell anyone its
private between you and him.
He may tell you to stop though if it
messed up your depression..i never told my
doctor, but then again i stopped taking
the pills for the herb. I'd rather smoke
my depression away than use a pill
