Just wondering how long a person should
jump rope.
I've read in some places that it's best to
jump rope for 3-5 minute intervals and get
a 1 minute break in between.
I've read in other places that you should
jump rope for 15 to 20 minutes straight.
I've read somewhere else that you never
want to jump rope for more than 10 minutes
straight.
The main question I have is: Is it safe to
jump rope for 10-20 minutes straight? Of
course, I'm assuming the person is in
proper condition; I realize that a
beginner will not be able to safely jump
rope for that long.

I think jump roping until you trip, your
calves get tired, or your heart/lungs get
tired is safe. There are very few health
risks to jump roping:
1. It is possible that you could injure
your ankle joints from excessive jumping,
but the damage here is insignificant and
is way less than the joint shock from
running.
2. If you over train yourself to the
EXTREME, you could push your heart past
its maximum beats per minute and you could
go into cardiac arrest.
I jump rope a lot and its only helped me,
so I don't see how it could hurt you.
