Floating Red Circles in Vision - neurological condition? Posted: 10-23-07 08:36am
My 8 year old daughter has complained
about seeing red circles floating toward
her. The circles started when she was
about 6 years old and have been
progressing ever since, to the point that
she sees them several times a day. She
describes seeing one circle that floats
towards her and multiplies into several
clumped circles as they get closer. She
mainly sees them in dim light and says
sometimes she sees them as clear when she
is in a well light area.
Her Pediatrician and Optometrist say she
is perfectly healthy and cannot offer any
explanation, but she is constantly
mentioning the circles. Could this be a
neurological condition?

Red spots in vision Posted: 07-31-08 09:45am
Hi, you posted a while back about the red
spot in your daughters vision. I hope that
by now this has stopped, or the been
identified and treated. If not, then it is
possibly a form of epileptic activity,
that could be secondary and be caused
primarily by something in the brain such
as a cavernoma ( tangled blood vessels) or
it could be primary epilepsy. I too have
had this, the first time when I was 23,
following the intense green blot in my
vision I had a conscious seizure and upon
going to hospital the cause was identified
as hemorrhage due to a cavernoma. The
doctors treated conservatively and decided
to monitor me instead. Recently, I
experienced the same thing again only this
time the colour was blue and again a
seizure followed, went to hospital and was
told that the cavernoma had bled again.
Last night I had the same thing, but
without the seizure. My advice, if this is
still continuing and the cause not
identified, is to demand a CAT scan to
identify any possible physical
interference in the brain, and if none is
identified then demand a EEG scan to
monitor for epileptic activity in the
brain.
If this is the reason for your daughters
vision, then I would anticipate that the
interference in your daughters visions
stems from something located at the back
of her brain, possibly on her left side.
If it is a a physical anomaly, then
depending on location and risk, it can be
removed relatively easily. If it is
primary epilepsy then there may be a
special medication for this type of
symptom.
