No Fetus Found During D&e Posted: 10-23-07 10:10am
Hello. I had a D&E procedure done on
Oct.2 after finding out at 8 weeks that
the there was no heartbeat and the baby
stopped growing at 7 weeks. After the
D&E was done, my doctor explained that
he was not able to find the fetus. He
sent the tissue that he took out to a lab
for testing and they were not able to find
the fetus either. I'm wondering-is this
common? I had the ultrasound only 3 days
before the D&E and they were able to
see the fetus then so why would they not
be able to find it during the procedure?
Also, I had next to no bleeding after the
procedure which I thought strange and then
15 days later, some lumps of tissue and
very dark blood came out. This got me
nervous since I had no previous signs of
anything going on. Can you offer any help
as I'm concerned that all these things are
not good in some way. I'm leaning towards
all of these things being ok but just want
to get further advice.

Really, I would ask for another ultrasound
just to make sure they got everything out.
Did you have any bleeding before the
d&e?
