Hello. I am new to this forum and i am
hoping someone out there can help put me
at ease and answer a couple questions.
First off, I am scheduled to have
rhinoplasty and a turbinectomy done mid
November...I am not as scared about the
rhinoplasty (just fixing a bump on my
nose) as i am the turbinectomy. The thing
is my doctor says i have enlarged
turbinates and a slightly crooked septum
which effect my 'breathing' and he wants
to take care of them. However, I do not
have difficulty breathing, the only
problems i told him i have on a regular
basis are sinus headaches and constant
post nasal drip and i am unsure if these
are caused by the turbinates or not. He
thinks the turbinates are more of a
problem than my septum. What scares me is
all i have been reading is how bad it is
to remove a turbinate and how you will
forever suffer from a dry nose and throat
and your nose wont be able to warm the air
or humidify it when you mess with the
turbinates...it can pretty much make u
uncomfortable for life. Is this true? Is
there anyone out there who has had this
done who can verify these issues so i can
tell my doctor not to do it before i make
a life altering mistake? I've heard the
main symptom of problem turbinates is not
being able to breathe, but i have no
problem breathing. Are sinus pain,
headaches, and a lot of post nasal drip
considered symptoms of problem turbinates
as well? Id REALLY appreciate any help!!
I am getting really scared about having
this done and screwing up my nasal
function forever. Thank You in advance.
