Hi all...
Just wondering when you all started your
babies on Rice Cereal. Chandler pretty
much stopped sleeping well through the
night and was waking up 2 times for a
bottle and still wasnt satisfied, so I
started giving him Rice Cereal in his
bottle before bed and so far so good. He
slept like a trooper last night and was
not as hungry all day. It was great. He is
3.5 mths old and I know some ppl have
started their babies earlier. Wish me
luck!

I'm glad the cereal worked for you. I gave
my daughter cereal when she wouldn't sleep
through and she woke up more. The doctor
laughed at me when I told him.
With my son, it worked like a charm
though. Good luck!!

fyi to the ladies who think feeding them
will make them sleep.......it doesnt work.
a baby will wake mostly for comfort....so
stuffing them doesnt do them much good.

I know. That was why my doctor laughed at
me for trying it.

Ok i'm confused i think we have a
different kind of rice over here because
Mika's doesn't go in a bottle anyway, Mika
started hers at urrrm 12 weeks maybe?
Along those lines because hse was just so
hungry and the doctor checked her out and
said it was ok. She slept through the nigh
tbefore then anyway but she's started
waking up the past couple of days again

Cereal in a bottle is a HUUUGE no no!!!!!!
It can be a serious choking hazard.
Especially in very small babies. Esp if
you have to manipulate the nipple (say for
instance you have to cut the hole to make
it bigger)
As she got older, I would put it in her
cup. But she had been on cereal (since 3
weeks) and baby food since 5 weeks (by her
Dr's orders).
Oni has NEVER had rice cereal. Only
oatmeal or mixed grain.
it's a total wives tale that it makes them
sleep longer. Oni slept through the night
at 5 weeks, but I'm sure it had nothing to
do with the food we gave her.
spoon feeding a 3-5 week old....FUN
times!!! LOL!

We are allowed to put cereal in a baby's
bottle here. You only put a little bit in
and its kind of hard for him to choke on
something that when put in milk, turns to
liquid because there is so little. I am
not using it to make him sleep all night,
its because he is growing and getting more
hungry and he requires more to eat than
just formula. As all babies grow they need
more to satisfy him. If they are
satisfied, they are less apt to wake up at
night because they are hungry. My son,
only wakes at night because he is hungry.
I know that because I have gotten up with
him and tried just soothing him back to
sleep and he is screaming and sucking like
crazy on his thumb and making his hungry
sounds. I do not give him cereal to make
him sleep, its because he is hungry and he
does not need to be eating 8 6 oz bottles
a day. So I am giving him cereal which
stays with him longer than the milk does.
If all babies ever needed was formula
there would be no need to switch them to
solid foods. Also, I did not have to cut
his nipples, nor would I ever do that, I
have him on the fast flow ones because the
slow feed are not fast enough and he had
to work too hard to get anything out of
them now. As for solid foods at 3 weeks
and 5 weeks? Wow thats insaine.. as for
the sleeping through then, I am pretty
sure that it woud have alot to do with the
food, because when babies are satisfied
and full at night they sleep much better
because they are not waking up hungry.
Rice cereal is much easier for them to
digest when they start eating too. He will
be getting the oatmeal cereal soon, but I
have started him on the rice for now.
Thats what my doctor told me to do. The
rice cereal is designed for them to eat
with a spoon, but some ppl put a small
amount in their bottles at night because
their babies are not satisfied with what
they get from formula anymore. Every baby
is different than the next and what
everyone does is different from the other.

I have a question, if food doesn't make
them sleep better then why do formula fed
babies typically sleep longer then
breastfed?
I thought it was because they consumed
more calories?
Im thinking of starting Bree on it next
month, but the nutritionist told me to
introduce it mixed with formula in a
bottle

Breast milk is the perfect food for
babies. It cannot be replicated in
formula.
It doesn't have the same waste products or
other things in baby formular. If you
started out breast feeding then changed to
formula, the diapers smell awful in
comparison!
Not all breast fed babies wake up often.
That is an old wives tale.

I've seen some breastfed babies sleep ..i
mean sleep...once again, its all about
individuality . Feeding a baby to make
them sleep longer is totally false and
most times it will not work.

jospeh was on rice cereal quite early, but
he seemed to eat constantly like every 2
hrs 6oz bottles so something had to be
done. jordynne eh i never really bothered
with it, i tried giving her rice cereal a
few times. she ate a lil , but eventually
just started her on stage one baby foods
around 4-5 mths. She doesnt sleep through
the night she usually wakes once or twice
for a bottle wich doesnt bother me at all.
I am in the process of getting her on
table foods now since she is 10 mths old!
I gave my friend my old rice cereal that
is unopened. explained to her how to mix
it with formula and breast milk to make it
to the consistency to feed them. And a
good age to start at , sorta to get em
used to eating with a spoon. I used to mix
rice cereal in her baby food, i had alot
of stage 1 so imixed rice cereal in it to
thicken it up some for her when she was
old of course and was able to chew and
swallow. before that it was plain rice
cereal. i have never ever tried the
oatmeal or the othe rone before, i got a
fruit one before the rice cereal but she
didnt like it.

Again, I am not here to be bashed at how
we feed our babies. Everyone does it
different. Putting cereal in a bottle that
comes with a larger hole in it, is no
different than a sippy cup. Its watered
down so much you can barely even tell its
in there. I am only doing that to start
him off as many mothers do until about a
week and then they get it spoon fed when
their tummys are used to a more solid
food. Also, I am putting a tbsp of rice in
a 6 oz bottle when shook up its barely
even noticable that its in it.
Also, every babies needs are different
when it comes to how much formula they eat
and when they start on solids.

wow. chill out girl. NOBODY was attacking
you.
I normally advise AGAINST "googling"
things, but in this case, i'd suggest you
google "putting cereal in an infants
bottle"...and see what comes up.
Have you discussed your actions with your
Dr? Have you seen what s/he says about you
giving your baby cereal in his bottle?
S/He MAY be against it, as it *IS* a
choking hazzard.
My daughter was able to sit up and CHEW by
the time I started adding the cereal to
her cup, so it's NOT the same.
And as for the TYPE of cereal, her Dr
& I chose oatmeal as it does NOT
constipate. It's also JUST as easily
digested as rice, if not easier.
Nothin we say is going to change your mind
or your actions. That's not what we're out
to do. You came on here and posted a
question/problem and more than one person
gave a similar answer. Doesn't that say
something?
Reguardless of what you do your child will
be healthy and thriving when s/he gets
older and this will all be a blur!
