Pain On Both Sides of Abdomen ...(?!)
Posted: 10-26-07 12:46pm

Hi my name is John and my fiance`s name Jaime, she is 27 and has four children. Our last just turning 1. She, for the last 9 months she has been having pain in her abdomen. She has said these pains vary from a constant pain that stretches across her tummy just below her ribs to a sharp stabbing pain that's similar to a joggers cramp taking her breath away. These pains stop her from doing most of the things that she would like to do. Back close to 9 months ago we had gone into the hospital. They thought that it was something to do with her kidneys, they took blood work and found nothing wrong. After that we went on thinking that it would go away. Until recently the day to day pain intensified. We went back to the doctor two weeks ago and had more tests done.. everything has been negative including diabetes the doctors don't really seem to be taking us seriously I am frustrated with having tests but no answers or even explanations. We are going to see yet another doctor today to discuss having an MRI done of her full upper body.. why don't they just schedule it? Does anybody have any advice on questions to ask the doctor or maybe something I could say that would get him to better understand how badly we need to get this figured out, She is toughing it out but homeschooling the three older kids and doing all the remodeling to our place is really too much.. I just want my girl to feel like herself again.

I was wondering were any of your children born by ceserean.

Nope, I've had five vaginal births (I lost one of my angels shortly before her due date). And other then mind over body type "positive thinking" I haven't had any breakthroughs. The doctors said they could do an upper scope but thought it would be useless... my finally diagnosis was that I have a functioning illness. Whatever that means, they leaned towards it being IBS with the exception of any normal symptoms.
I have given up hope on finding any help with doctors. It's too expensive as of right now I owe over $5000 and trying to raise four children on my husbands income alone is next to impossible, then to have so much medical debt on top of it.. yea that's enough to cause painful stress.. lol
thanks for the reply =)

i look in medical book:definition of functional disorder is a condition in which a patient complains of symptoms for which no physical caused can be found,(it goes on to sugest it is a psychiatric disorder),

this is really upsetting, really not helpful at all.
have you found anyfoods that iritate your condition. when did you notice the symptoms, was it post children.

really sorry to hear about baby, youve had some tough times.
are you still homeschooling? we have 4 and are too.

all the best,

wow.. I didn't bother to look up the definition because I was pretty sure it meant something like that. I have also dealt with migraines most my life and one time when I moved I requested a copy of my medical files so I could have them for the next doctor and my doctor had wrote that she thought it was all in my head in more technical words then that.

I know I am not the only one who has had hard times. I am coming to the realization that even though it feels like an insult to have doctors treat you like you are insane or simply not telling the truth It seems that because I do not want to take the pills they prescribe that they are more apt to say it's all in my head. They are not the end all be all of every aspect of medicine. I am learning to treat myself. The pain doesn't seem to pick up with any foods I am currently eating and although I never noticed it being effected by my past diet (which consisted of a lot more variety) so I will stick the healthier eating habits in hopes that it will help well being as a whole. I am convinced that what ails me as real as the physical aspects feel I am willing to say it is caused by stress. I do not think that I am a hypochondriac because I am not looking for things that are wrong but stress can cause a lot of real physical problems.
Pretty much what I am trying to say is that I felt more like a hypochondriac when I was going to the doctors trying to find a name for what I had... and since I have decided not to seek professional help anymore I feel more in control. Now I manage my pain the way I have learned to manage my migraines. When it gets really bad I do my best to relax myself till the pain subsides. If the doctors couldn't find anything in their tests then I am satisfied that it is a functional disorder.. Not enough seriousness is given to what stress can cause but let me say that I do not consider myself to be "mental" for lack of better terms.. I just think that I am one of the unlucky few that doesn't want to be heavily medicated to live life. I am happy though so it does feel strange to put all my pains on stress because I don't feel very stressed.. I am more now then ever because my father has just recently been diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer and it is too close to his heart for either radiation or surgery and my pain is no worse now then before.
well I'll end this here.. my kids are all begging to go outside Saturday morning .. what can I say it's a beautiful day.

I wish you all the best!

oh and...

good on you for being assertive. I have also discovered that each of us have the resources to find out about our own health., what makes us tick. I believe symptoms are a result of your body telling you something is wrong.
After my own research i was able to conquer a condition that had bothered me for years with simple, natural products. Antibiotics made me ill and that was what i was given.
I had 4 difficult deliveries, all survived. Through those experiences my passion has grown to want to be a midwife, i shake my head at some of the care i recieved> the last one an emergency c, lost 2L of blood, no transfusions, i discharged 2 days later feeling terrible for a very long time, no iron suppliments. people commented at my funny colour. Its now that i study i think my goodness i lost over half my blood. But being a homeschooling mum you just have to suck it up and get on with it and limited support.3 out of 4 i came home wiht infection, wasnt for me but im for homebirths all the way if things are well.

- i had also challenged a specialist at one time as wanting to put me on aspiring therapy for preg hypertension, ahhhh no. he agreed with me in the end.

what i am saying is who should care for us more than ourselves, doctors do have their place, we knew an amazing doctor extreemly helpful and cause orientated, major breakthroughs under his care.
we could call him a friend. But we moved area, sigh.

so im keen for you to get a breakthrough.
are you able to list all your symptoms, head down to toes. Please be real here, i wont judge you. i m not a doctor just love heath. friends contact me and ask me to look into stuff for them. and often its is just so simple vitamin deficiency etc.
it may be as simple as needing to visit an osteopath who is great with muscle and bone tension.nerves, headaches etc.

being a homeschooling mum, there is no time to be hypochondriac, besides it was your loved one who started the forum.
-i too request my files, i scan them, and i find there were key points left out like advised by lab to be given donor anti E antibody. Hm no one mentioned that, while my body was treating baby as an allergy.

A pattern had emerged with my pregnancies, had i been more onto it with getting my notes, i feel better care could have been provided thus eliminating some of the intervention. i think caregivers just become so busy that there isnt the personal care anymore.
