Has anyone seen the trailer for "Raw For
30 Days"? It's a documentary about six
people, with diabetes as they attempt to
reverse their diabetes through eating only
raw food.
What does everyone think of this idea? Is
it someone anyone here has tried before?
I'm just getting into this whole raw food
thing and I'd love to get some advice.
Most people in my family eventually
develop diabetes and I’d like to prevent
myself of doing the same. Does eating an
all raw diet work?

It sounds incredibly difficult. But if you
could manage, more power to you!

This always makes me think of that Sex and
the City episode where they're at the Raw
Foods Bar, and it's full of beautiful,
thin women taking shots of wheat grass.

going raw will get me then maybe I'll
reconsider!

I've lived 'raw' for a couple of years
now. No cellulite, no plaque on my teeth,
no health problems like high blood
pressure/cholesterol. Just lots of
'bunnyhugger' comments. For some unknown
reason people just can't seem to believe
that one can live like this- like it's
torture or something.
Have to admit though: it's a pain in the
but to go to a restuarant.

I have considered going raw before, but I
dont think I could do it living in a dorm,
they do not offer enough food choices.
Beline, is going to a resturant the
hardest part?

In my country going to restaurants is a
national passtime. Everything envolves
food. (mainly meat dishes) Business
meetings, celebrations, get togethers ect.
But I believe it would be pretty much the
same, no matter were you go.
So in that regard it's hard. And I don't
advertise the fact that I only eat raw
food. To me it's a lifestyle - not a
religion. I simply say that I'm not
hungry, and I'll order a glass of water,
or a salad and I ask for the dressing on
the side. People hardly ever notices that
you don't use the dressing.
As far as family and friends go - my close
family knows, and is always ready with the
cannibal remarks, but it's just teasing.
And only my closest friends know, but they
know better than to make nasty remarks. Ha
ha. I told a couple of colleges, and that
was a HUGE mistake.
In all honesty: I don't know if I would
stick to my lifestyle living in a dorm. As
you said: very limited food choices.
Living raw should not be torture. I'm just
doing for health reasons. I'm not making a
statement, although I just adore animals.

I eat part raw part vegan. It's easier
than you think. If you are a person that
just loves fruits and veggies, especially
greens(and no, i don't drink wheat grass
juice, but i drink green smoothies) you
can do it.
If the thought of drinking a green
smoothie sounds horrifying to you(they
taste fruity, not icky), or you can't
handle a bowl of fruit or a salad for
lunch, then raw probably won't be a good
idea.
I used to think "hmm...raw foods..what is
that? an apple and an orange on a plate?"
lol It's actually some pretty incredible
recipes, plus that raw apple or orange, or
any other fruit and veggie you can think
of.
I have a green smoothie every morning to
start my day. If I don't have one, I start
feeling draggy. I make my own raw soups
which are much more tasty than canned
stuff any day. I also do not add salt, but
add herbs instead.
If you want to lose weight, you can lose
massive amounts of weight eating this
way.
Eating raw is not expensive..you buy
fruits and veggies in season when they are
cheapest. Invest in a good juicer and high
speed blender. There are tons of raw
recipes online, just do a search. Also
books devoted to raw living.
Also, very important: If you decide to go
totally raw, you will go through detox.
You will feel really sick for a week or
two, it's just your body's way of ridding
yourself of toxins from all the chemicals
and additives in the foods you used to
eat, stored in there. Once past that, you
will feel like a brand new person again.
And have tons of energy.

I don’t do the ‘raw recipe’-thing. I
know it could be great for variety, but
I’m just a lazy ass when it comes to
cooking, preparing food and washing
dishes. So I’ll
just grab whatever is in the fridge and
eat on the go.
And I agree with you on the energy boost.
I’m the mother of a very, very lively
three year old girl, and there is just no
way I would have been able to keep up
before the detox. Speaking of which: my
detox was horrible, and the worst part was
the B.O. Yuck. I have a thing about
personal hygiene and smelling like a sweat
factory was a huge turn off. And I’m not
even going to go into what my breath
smelled like…
