Condoms In Preventing Pregnancy
Posted: 10-26-07 21:31pm

I have heard alot of different birth control methods but not alot of remarks about condoms. I know the pill is a good option and also IUD's but isnt condoms too? I was wondering because I only use condoms and they never break or slip off. I do the air and water test and there are no holes. What are the chances getting my girlfriend pregnant by using this method? i know its like 85% if not used properly and every method decreases if not used properly but what are the chances?

There's always a chance, nothing is ever 100% except abstinence...but as long as you're using them properly, they should prevent an unwanted pregnancy. I'm not really sure on percentages or anything like that, but you can always look that up if you wanted. Has your girlfriend ever thought of going on the pill??

Condoms are great, I fully advocate them!!

The problem is this.. I work in an abortion clinic, and I see a lot of unwanted pregnancy from condoms.

I love the IUD, it is awesome, hormone free, and none of the side effects.

The problem is this.. What if your g/f does get pregnant? Do you have a back-up plan?

I used condoms for 6 months with no problems either Smile As back up, you can always keep a pill or two of plan-b around. This is not an abortion pill; it is similar to birth control pills in that its primary purpose is to prevent ovulation.

im just wondering because my girlfriend was on the pill but stopped at the end of the pack because she didnt like them. I saw a change in her to. but we did have sex like the 3 days after her last active pill but i didnt come or anything cuase i was only in for alittle. I know about pre-ejaculating but she is still safe for 7 daays becase it would of been her placebo pills and they say you are. She had a period for a week and a day but so far we had sex twice but with a condom. But heres the thing, it didnt break and i also pull-out way before i was coming and then came like 2 minutes later. What are the chances of getting her pregnant? please feed back

its been protected. except the time she was on the placebo week. So she was protected. Birth control is protection against pregnancy. Its unprotected to deceases. Im talking about pregnancy. You are still safe on the placebo week...Right?

If you use condoms correctly and they don't break, you have a pretty good chance of not getting pregnant. Stick with the more expensive trusted brands, (Trojan and the like), make sure they don't expire, and use lube too (brings down the chance that they will break).

Spermicide is a great option to use along with condoms, if it doesn't irritate her vagina too much.

I would suggest having a back up plan though in case something happens. Keep a dose of plan b around just in case. If she's under 18, she can ask her doc for a prescription or get it from a planned parenthood. If she's over 18, she can get it from a pharmacy. That's always a good idea.

There are MANY MANY different BC types.

One may not work for her, but another would be GREAT. She may need to have to try some new types out.

I've actually seen reports that Trojan is the brand that breaks the most. I'd personally (and do) use Lifestyles condoms. Those suckers are tough! Never had one break on me. The only time I saw a Lifestyles condom break was after it had been inflated to about one and a half feet long and 9 inches in diameter; then a friend of mine carried it around for half an hour, and it finally broke as he bashed a friend across the head with it lol.

yea i read the too, about trojan... i have been using life style and durex ... i had one lifestyle one break but thats because it was the ultra thin kind and we didnt put it on right... lol make sure there isnt air in the tip lol. i would reccomend finding a pill that works for her because it seems so much smarter to double up on birth controls that dont effect each other...

Well I've only ever used trojan, and yes, I've had one break lol so maybe I shouldn't be suggesting it. I just meant not to use cheapo novelty condoms.
