I had gastric bypass surgery a little over
5 years ago. I've had 2 hernia repairs
since Dec. 2006. I have not been able to
connect the issue with any foods. Honestly
1 of the days that I had normal BM was a
day I went to a waterpark...thank
goodness. I was actually shocked that I
was having a normal bm the first time in 3
weeks...I ate healthy homemade version of
an egg mcmuffin. Then had fruit and yogurt
parfait. At the park has shrimp pasta
salad made with barilla plus pasta...and
lots of baked cheetos...then ended the day
sharing a giant ice cream. I expected to
pay the price for the sugary ice
cream....but had nice normal s-shaped
stool....amazing...and the next morning
only had 1 bm....

xyla_phony,
I've been doing what the dietician said
and trying to drink more water, do more
regular exercise. It seems to help
somewhat, I still have the symptoms every
day and rarely have what I would consider
a normal bowel movement, but the symptoms
are reduced some what, so I can get by
without it bothering me too much.
I think I'm going to go back to my doctor
though because I got a bit of a fright
this morning. I ate a sort of vegetable
stew with mushrooms and things in it both
for dinner last night (with some bread)
and for breakfast this morning (with some
fruit). I had a bowel movement this
morning and noticed a big slice of
mushroom in it, fully formed, as if it had
passed right the way through my system
without being digested at all.
I feel fine, my stomach is not upset or
anything, but surely this means something
is up? It appears that my body is not
digesting food properly.

I guess you can have IBS issue.
IBS is a chronic condition, although there
will likely be times when the signs and
symptoms are worse and times when they
improve or even disappear completely.
In some individuals, IBS may have an acute
onset and develop after an infectious
illness characterized by two or more of
the following: fever, vomiting, diarrhea,
or positive stool culture. This has been
termed as "post-infectious IBS".

More recently the dull pain has become
sharp especially when I bend over or reach
to either side, or getting in and out of
my car...it's a quick very sharp pain that
makes me YELP with pain. I saw my PCP
again and she thought I could have a
partial bowel blockage and suggested I try
Miralax for a little more than a week and
see if that produced reg bm....at first it
did lesson the frequency but that
concerned me since we expected it would at
first produce more...thus clearing the
blockage out...so the fact I began going
even less...well after 10 days nothing was
reg...still loose still constipated at
night and I had an episode of vomitting
and pain one night...I almost went to the
ER but I was able to fall asleep and the
pain was gone the next morning...that
situation with pain has happened
before...bad pain but I can sleep it off.
I am now going to go see my surgeon who
did the 2 hernia repairs as I think it
perhaps is an internal hernia or
adheisions causing a partial blockage of
my bowels that allows stool to pass
through at night when I'm relaxed on my
back....and during the day it twisted, etc
and causing the constipation.
