- barely perceptible
- sometimes my brain fills in words for
them
- I can also hear my own thoughts
- At least one voice, sometimes two will
repeat phrases ad infinitum
- a lot of of nasty/unnatural thoughts...
some homosexual thoughts, racist/bigotted,
etc.
Just wondering how much control I should
have over all this? The last two are
particularly annoying. Thankfully I
haven't fallen into the "hating myself"
category due to these thoughts, but I
would like to know wether or not its
possible to control them. Because if
someone else has, I figure I should be
able to as well.
Thanks for any comments

Do you mean control them like turn them
off? Or control what they say?
I have not heard a person w/ schizophrenia
say they have ever been able to control
voices.
I think meds may be able to help. Have
you got a doctor?

yea, just started risperdal a couple days
ago...
yea ideally id like to turn them off, but
the best i can do is "nudge" them to say
something i want, but it usually only
lasts for a little bit, and sometimes it
takes a few repititions of effort to do
it.
I also noticed that when I'm in class,
listening to the professor speak, I'm able
to quiet it down quite a bit, if not
completely. Definately a good thing, being
able to concentrate well enough
edit: I should also add that the comments
in my head tend to be VERY mentally
handicapped at times... sometimes they are
evil, sometimes they are good (but in a
gay happy-go-lucky way)... sometimes just
plain stupid.

It can take a couple weeks for the
Risperdol to do what it does...
It sounds like you are doing well-going to
school and all. How are you doing
socially?

I'm glad you can quiet it down when the
prof speaks... How about when you are
reading? Watching TV? Maybe you should do
more concentration activities?

socially not so well, dealing with a lot
of anxiety and mental slowness...
risperdal is supposed to help there
supposevly.
and unfortunately other concentration
activities only seem to make it worse... i
think it has something to do with having
another voice talking pretty much right at
you... so the only things that get me
focused are other people talking.
I am not to blame though for a lot of the
mess thats coming out of my head though
right? I mean some of it is pretty
stupid...

You're not to blame for whatever you don't
agree with.

I can relate to the experience of having
voices with annoying content popping up in
my head. I suffered from this for years
and thought it was normal. It was so bad
that sometimes I had a hard time reading.
Medications will help. Keep in mind that
this condition is not your fault.

I don't think that trying to concentrate
on something else would help all that
much.. you know, "Try NOT to think of a
pink elephant...." doesn't usually work.
And no, the voices in your head are not a
reflection of you or your intellect or
anything like that. Don't feel bad about
it. The condition is not your fault and
not something you can control.
