Basically Ive tried tons of different
birth control...all the hormonal kinds
pills make me crazy: mood swings,
irritability, headaches, low sex drive,
tiredness, etc. The patch was working out
great but started to give me migraines and
everyone told me they cause strokes. Im
allergic to spermacide as it gives me
terrible UTIs. Condoms dont work well. I
have a backwards facing uterus so Im not
sure the sponge or the ring would work
well.
I hear the non hormonal copper IUD is like
99% effective but my doc has said that she
does not recommend it for women who have
not had children yet (which I havent-ps Im
27). Plus Ive read online that it can give
you your period for like two weeks!
Yikes!!
K so the question is...does anybody use
this? What are your opinions? Any Drs or
NPs out there with some input? Even though
I havent had children could I still use
it? I really need to find a non hormonal
method that is reliable. I know that
everyone is different but I need some
opinions based on my backround. And yes I
know I should ask my doc but I have
trouble getting the time I need and
getting clear answers.

Ask a different doctor!! New research has
decided that it's perfectly safe to give
IUD's to women who never had children. A
copper IUD can mess up your period, but
many women decide that it's worth it.
However, like I said in your other post,
you will have to talk to the doctor about
the tilted uterus. It might pose problems
during insertion.

I got my first IUD at age 20, and I never
ever WANT children at all.
I work in womens health, and SOME doctors
are reluctant to place IUD's in certain
women, but there are doctors out there
that will do this.
Planned parenthood is an AWESOME resource
for getting an IUD, they will give them to
ANYONE who wants one, as long as the exams
show that everything is clean.
I go to planned parenthood , even though I
have good health insurance, because they
offer services that some regular OBGYN
would not offer.
You can get an IUD
You just may have to do some looking to
see who will give you one.

I have never had my period for 2 weeks, it
is always 5 days long.
SOME women do have longer periods for the
first 3 months, but then it gets better.

I have decided to get the IUD also. The
hormones in any other birth controls rob
my body of estrogen and in turn I have
painful sex. So my only option is the
non-hormonal IUD. My doctors concerns
were only: 1. Its not cost effective if I
want to have children within a year or
two, and 2. I could have spotting for 3
months.
He said that every woman is different but
that I could bleed to up to 3 months like
a normal period or I could just spot.
Then after 3 months your body will adjust
and start your monthly flow. Also the IUD
can lengthen your periods to up to 5-7
days. I usually have mine for only 3 days
so mine could end up being a full week.
But his wife had an IUD for 7 years and
she loved it! He highle recommends it as
a great and safe birth control method
without the side affects of hormones.
I havent gotten my IUD yet, but it will be
in a couple of months....
