Procedure to Get B/c At Clinic

I might go on birth control and the only
way I can get it is at a family planning
clinic. I heard they have to do bloodwork
but I am very very scared of hypodermic
things, like needles they take out blood
with. Is there anything else they can do?
In addition to this, what else happens?

What I don't understand is why the doctors
office and the family planning clinic
would be different in the way they give
out bc. I went to the doctors, and I
never had to get blood taken.. Just an
exam *down there*... They'll ask you
questions about your lifestyle and if your
family has any hisotry of breast cancer
etc... Then they'll decide which type is
best for you.. And probly give you 2
months free to try.. At least thats what
they did for me.

I went to family planning to get on birth
control. The doc there let me choose what
I wanted and I choose depo-provera. They
gave me a years supply of vitimans. Like
cherry pie said they will give you a pap
smear which takes all of like 2 minutes.
Family planning basis you bill on your
income. If you have no income then it
would be free. But they may base it on
the income of your parents or some one
else if they live with you. They will
give you lots of papers and stuff on depo
and the pills feel free to ask what ever
questions you want thats what they are
there for. I dont know about the pill but
to get on depo I had to take a pregnancy
test. You probably be in the waiting room
longer then actually being in with the
nurse or doctor.

Well that's good news for me! My friend
said she went and they did a blood test.
I don't know for what thought. Maybe I
should call and ask beforehand or
something. Thanks for your input.

Here it is always said because of their
sexual orientation it is more likely for
them to get aids and hiv.

Hmm.. I don't know about that.. I mean
im not gay/lesbian, so I can't say for
sure.. But I would think that we
(straight ppl) are just as likely to get
aids as they are.. I know at one time
when aids was just new ppl who got it were
always accused of being 'crooked'.. Even
though that wasn't always the case.. To
me that sounds kinda prejudiced what your
community is doing.. But hey! Don't get
mad, like I said what I think and think I
know may be totally wrong!!!

I am not saying this in any way to offend
gay/lesbian people. I have some great gay
friends.
I believe that gay people, especially gay
men, have a higher tendancy to get aids
because is because of anal sex. Since
there's no worry about pregnancy, you
don't have to use a condom, and most
condoms are only made for vaginal use
anyways. Diseases are spread very easily
from the rectum like this. You'd be
surprised how many gay men don't use
condoms and how high the aids rate is
here.

Diseases are spread easier through the
rectum. But, when aids first came out (
and some people still feel this way) it
was blamed on the gay community. Some
people just continue to think that way,
because they are small minded. But
anyone is at risk for aids.
Family planning does not do a blood test
unless they are testing you for aids
(which you have to request, or agree to
and sign a release) or if you have
specific symptoms of something that would
require bloodwork. I have gone to family
planning for ten years and they have never
taken my blood. You cannot legally test
for aids without permission, so if you do
not want or need that test, then they will
not do it.

I'm wasn't saying that I see gay people
the only ones with aids, but over here, I
hear that a lot. So I thought maybe
that's why it'd be required, since so many
people have it here. If I would have to
get a blood test, I wouldn't be able to
go. When you went, did they make you
watch a video on like safe sex or
something?

I know you were not saying that. I was
just saying what the sterotype is. But,
bottom line an aids test cannot be
required except for like life insurance or
something. You only have to take it if
you want it. I didn't have to watch a
video on safe sex. How old are you?
