Pilonidal Cysts - treatment w/o surgery? can it spread? Posted: 11-01-07 14:31pm
I have an itchy bump above my butt (by the
tail bone) and it usually bleeds a great
deal and oozes some puss and it has been
driving me mad for the last 2 1/2 years.
Im pretty sure its a Pilonidal
cysts...unfortunately. But fortunately it
doesnt look like it is hemorrhoids or a
cancer like i thought it was when i first
saw it. Im afraid of it spreading and i
have been worried about this tiny bump
since spring 05 when i first felt the
bleeding and itching. It really came out
of nowhere...
Is there ANY way to treat it without
surgery? Will it be with me forever if i
dont do something about it, because it has
been almost 3 years and its not changing.
Can it spread? Im recently having trouble
using the bathroom because i think, I
THINK i may have developed another one
inside my actual anus, preventing me from
going poop properly. Like its blocking my
exit. Is this possible? I really hope
thats not the case.I havent pooped in
about 2 days and im really scared.
Anyone please respond.
Thank you.

Do you have family history of pilonidal
cyst?
Are you prone to acne, boils, sebaceous
cysts?
What's the size of the lump?
Does it hurt when you press it on?

dont know about family history but my
grandfather was in wwII, didnt it start
there? maybe he had one.
yes i have had acne since 13 and it never
goes away. acne has been with me in some
form or another all the way up to my
current age of 23. no boils, but i have
gotten several acne cyst over the years
but they all eventually went away.
well, the one that itches is fairly small,
probably the size of a bad acne cyst.
it stings and itches when i press on it.
yeah i would say it hurts when i press on
it.
now, is it possible that it spread to my
anus hole, im have really hard trouble
passing gas and pooping because it seems
the hole is closed off something that is
bleeding a small bit. i padded it with a
tissue and i feel a bump there that if i
rub it a bit, kinda leaves dots of blood.
but im not sure if its blood or you
know...poop.
ive had the itchy lump for about 3 years.
can it go away without treatment? im
afraid it has spread and im really worried
lately.
any advise will be greatly appreciated.
thanks again.

Is this lump located exactly on the bottom
of your tailbone ?
Was the appearance of this lump same three
years ago as today or it was changing over
the time?
Was this lump oozing pus when you had
noticed it for the first time?
Are you experiencing its presence as
swollen red lump that's causing pain?
Do you feel progressive tenderness after
physical activity or a period of prolonged
sitting?
Do you have fever?
If this lump is a pilonidal cyst there is
no need to worry about spreading it inside
your anus.
Do you find this lump and the surrounding
area tender and warm to palpation?

thats what i wanted to hear!
anyway, this is indeed a pilonidal cyst. i
went to the doctor last week and she
confirmed it. if it wasnt for me currently
not having insurance, i would have a
surgery date set by now. but unfortunately
im stuck waiting it out until i find some
insurance.
its seems its been the same size since ive
discovered it. it only itches (pretty
badly at times) and thankfully the pus has
been very less frequent lately.
my biggest fear was it spreading. so, im
trying to keep myself very clean in hopes
nothing like that will happen before i
have surgery.
can diet have anythinig to do with this
itching more or having more pus?

This cyst can become infected and filled
with pus. When this happens the cyst is
known as pilonidal abscess. It's an
abscess that is created from an infected
follicle. Usually, when it's infected the
pain is worse.
Pilonidal cyst can take one of several
courses.
Some people with pilonidal cyst will
experience excruciating pain in the
tailbone area and will have obvious signs
of inflamed lump(redness, swelling, pain)
Other people will have abscess that's
draining and don't cause sever pain.
The third group of people are the ones
that can feel the lump, but cause very
little pain.
I guess you belongs to second group and
you may feel itchy in tailbone area and
perianal area caused by drainage.
So long as your cyst is draining you will
have to wear a little gauze pad over the
drainage with hypoallergenic paper tape to
take care of the mess.
Eating a healthy and balanced diet (food
rich in zink and vit E ) is essential for
healing process after drainage or surgery.
