Walter was funny, but the out takes were a

and laughed so hard I nearly peed....

I can see everyones perspective. With much
thought here is my perspective.
Some parts of Texas are truly like another
culture. A lot of conversations there do
seem to be focused more on material
possessions. That is not to say they are
just material people and nothing else
seems to matter....it's just the culture.
That is just how people seem to relate to
each other. My husbands dads side of the
family live in Texas and they talk very
similarly as Suzy talks. It's just how
they relate to each other. Money isn't an
issue for some of them and it will never
be an issue for their children due to
inheritance. Pretty much being born into
money. I am pretty certain Suzy just
wanted to show people what she got and was
expecting for everyone to respond similar
to most people do who are around her in
real life.
It will be a learning curve when that is
the culture you know. I initially reacted
the same way a lot of you are. I am sure
Suzy will learn with time. Perhaps money
may never be a complete issue with her if
she was born into money (don't know your
situation at all Suzy). I believe she is
learning how to respond appropriately to
the rest of society.
Suzy, if you are part of that culture and
may never have to worry about money, it is
hard for people to understand. Equally,
it's probably hard for you to understand
where we are coming from. I remember
reading in one post you stated that an
ultrasound is ONLY $250 and mentioned that
is cheap. Please realize that even for two
college graduate professionals like my
husband and I, that is a lot of money when
you have to pay bills and such. That is
where I feel you do need to grow and
learn. No matter how old we are, we all
have to grow in some areas. This is your
area. A large majority of us really need
to watch our money and when you say this
it could cause some intense reactions from
some others who are living paycheck to
paycheck.
Some of us want to really give you a
reality check and show you what it's like
from the "other side." Perhaps you will
see someday and perhaps not. I do hope
that you can someday put yourself in other
peoples shoes you may not be so fortunate.
Perhaps you can already but it just
doesn't come across like that in certain
emails.
Take care

Wow...I have lived in Texas all my life
and have been all over the state...but I
never knew things were like that... It
really seems that you are profiling us by
the FEW people from Texas that you have
met...

Read that part... but you also have to
admit that it's not just in Texas... that
would apply to all 50 states...and a large
part of the world as well...

There are some places like that all around
the country. True.
I have been to 43 states and drove across
the country three times. I have lived in
five different states and another country
(just for three months). It is very
interesting how each place does seem to
have it's unique culture.
I am sorry you took it as profiling. I
knew someone would misunderstand me.

I did notice in more in Texas, sorry. I am
not saying it's a bad place. I personally
love it there and would love to live
there. It's just a general perception
based on the area I was in and the people
I know.
** It looks like we were typing at the
same time to say it does occur
everywhere...
I am just trying to provide a "possible"
explanation for why Suzy's perspective on
money is a little different. I guess I
could have left the whole Texas thing out
of it.

I didnt take it personal..btw... .....its
just that yes I have seen this... but I
also live in the one of the most poverty
stricken area of the country.. Cameron
County.... and while traveling the state
I have seen the "big money and old money"
thing, most of this comes from established
families that have had ranches and large
plots of land that have been in their
family for generations... but also there
are alot of areas of TX that are not like
this...I have experienced alot of down
home people here and are quite friendly
and yes...they are proud of what they have
earned themselves..and proud of their
families too...

well there is also a stereotype that we
all are cowboys too.... but I've never
worn boots and a cowboy hat in my life...
and that bigger and better thing is just
an old saying...
