I know there are extremely hard working
down to earth people there. I was talking
about the old and big money thing. I know
you are trying to show people that Texas
is not all about the stereotype.

Maybe that makes me naive

didn't think that people would profit

"adopting them out". It sure sounds like
selling to me, but meh. I don't think I've

I completely and utterly agree with you.

Thanks for THAT stereotype Black Cat. Yes
we do have a large amount of homosexuals.
There is a stereotype for certain areas
for a reason. It is part of the culture
of that area and has been for quite some
time.

I can see everyones
perspective. With much thought here is my
perspective.
Some parts of Texas are truly like another
culture. A lot of conversations there do
seem to be focused more on material
possessions. That is not to say they are
just material people and nothing else
seems to matter....it's just the culture.
That is just how people seem to relate to
each other. My husbands dads side of the
family live in Texas and they talk very
similarly as Suzy talks. It's just how
they relate to each other. Money isn't an
issue for some of them and it will never
be an issue for their children due to
inheritance. Pretty much being born into
money. I am pretty certain Suzy just
wanted to show people what she got and was
expecting for everyone to respond similar
to most people do who are around her in
real life.
It will be a learning curve when that is
the culture you know. I initially reacted
the same way a lot of you are. I am sure
Suzy will learn with time. Perhaps money
may never be a complete issue with her if
she was born into money (don't know your
situation at all Suzy). I believe she is
learning how to respond appropriately to
the rest of society.
Suzy, if you are part of that culture and
may never have to worry about money, it is
hard for people to understand. Equally,
it's probably hard for you to understand
where we are coming from. I remember
reading in one post you stated that an
ultrasound is ONLY $250 and mentioned that
is cheap. Please realize that even for two
college graduate professionals like my
husband and I, that is a lot of money when
you have to pay bills and such. That is
where I feel you do need to grow and
learn. No matter how old we are, we all
have to grow in some areas. This is your
area. A large majority of us really need
to watch our money and when you say this
it could cause some intense reactions from
some others who are living paycheck to
paycheck.
Some of us want to really give you a
reality check and show you what it's like
from the "other side." Perhaps you will
see someday and perhaps not. I do hope
that you can someday put yourself in other
peoples shoes you may not be so fortunate.
Perhaps you can already but it just
doesn't come across like that in certain
emails.
Take care
thank you so much for your post
its both ways with my family
my parents both made great money and had
thier lives well together. and also i was
born into a family of money
my mom never finished high school, she
owns her own daycare and makes okay money.
but her part of the family is very well
off and her reletives left alot to her as
they passed. my dad is a lawyer.
i know money doesnt come around like it
grows on trees. for some people life is
rough and i understand that. thats why i
said i apoloize if i ever made anyone feel
bad about it.
i didnt honestly EVER mean to do that in
any way.
people at school always looked at me as
the rich girl and i hated it. beacsue then
everyone wanted to be my friend and be col
with me for the things i had and the place
i lived. i tried to finally get away from
that when i left school and now its
happening here again that people are
judging me based on what clothes i wear or
what type of purses i have. and i dont
want to be that person.

Stereotypes are a part of life. I could
care less if people think there are a lot
of gay people are here. There are and it
does not bother me one bit. My point is
everyone stereotypes and generalizes what
they do not know or understand. It helps
us to categorize and easily identify
things. Whether or not we does so while
passing judgment is another thing
altogether.

I think every state has some kind of
stereotype. Whether it be a state that is
full or rednecks, or that people have
nasty teeth, or people have sex with
livestock. Or all of the above for that
matter.

I know I don't post a lot on here, but in
the last few months I've read a lot of
posts on this forum. I just wanted to
add, as I am also from Texas and am a part
of the younger crowd, that the_girlfreind
comes here talking about her life
considering everyone on this site a friend
of hers. She feels as if she can say
what's going on in her life and not be
judged about it the same way as she would
if she talked to a random stranger in
person. At least I know that's what I do.
Once when I thought that I was pregnant,
I tried to explain my situation as well as
possible to sort of paint the picture of
my life for you guys so you could better
understand where I was coming from. I
mentioned that even though my husband and
I are still currently college students,
that we didn't fit the "poor college
student" stereotype many people think of.
I mentioned that we paid our bills without
struggle and that we were also living in a
cute three bedroom house. I said this
only to show that we could afford and
provide for a child and to help others
understand that I wasn't a typical college
student you may have pictured. I'm sure
the_girlfreind wasn't too far away from
those intentions during her posts.
Maybe it's her age or the state she lives
in or whatever that made her say those
things, but it's her life that she was
sharing because of one reason: she's a
young pregnant teen that wants other
women's support and friendship and
opinions. I think that no matter what, we
should try to look past details of a
person's life that are different than our
own or that we don't agree with that they
chose to share with us and provide them
with what they came to this site for
unconditionally. I do agree that we
should all try to be more considerate of
others, however, especially on more
sensitive subjects.

Heh, well... I feel bad about it now. I
kind of have a habit of just going off,
and I really need to stop that. I just
feel so strongly about so many things, and
I guess it just really upset me. I think I
would have reacted the same way if someone
had said "You can make a LOT of money
being a foster parent". I don't know...
who wants to hear that? I respect foster
parents because of the work they do, but I
don't want to hear about how much money
they get from it, you kow? Same with
abused/neglected/abandoned dogs. I guess I
lost it easier than ever because of all
the shopping talk.
I don't know. I slept on it and now I feel
kind of bad for the way I went off... but
I stand by my points.

Good stand by them . We all are passionate
about different things and never let
anyone hold you back from what you feel.
We all go off sometimes because people say
the darndest things without thinking .
Just you do it in such a way that it
sounds so much better.lol

You are good with words, Laura!! The thing
I do like about these boards is that
people do stand up for what they believe
in!!It does tend to get nasty sometimes
because we try to express our thoughts in
written word and don't have the luxury of
hearing intonation and nonverbal
expressions. As a result,
misinterpretations or false judgments
about people are had. On the other hand,
sometimes are interpretations can be
correct.

I now live in a state I considered
"nothin' but rednecks!" When I first drove
across country with my mom, I HATED this
state. I remember driving in the Northern
part of this state and seeing quite a few
confederate flags on houses and trucks. I
swore I would never live here. Well, here
I am. It is true that this is an extremely
red state but living in the city, I don't
come across a lot of rednecks. ALthough,
it is definitely more "red necky" then any
other place I have lived.
