Health Insurance And Pre-existing Conditions Posted: 09-08-03 16:56pm
My wife and I are at an impasse. She
thinks my daughter should see a specialist
and I do not. My 6 year old daughter has
had a rapidly beating heart on occasion.
The pediatrician said a year ago that she
was probably just dehydrated. When this
has happened we give her water and
eventually it seems to subside. About a
month ago it happened again. I made an
appointment with a pediatric cardiologist
but then had second thoughts. I have
health insurance through my company, but
don't think the job will be around much
longer. If I leave on my own or not of my
doing and open my own consulting business
and my daughter has a record no matter how
minor of a heart issue, she will be
uninsurable. Or at least uninsurable
unless I go with 18 months of cobra then a
high risk state policy for uninsurable
people. It seems I would be labeling her
for the rest of her life and she would not
be able to get medical or life insurance.
Other options would be for me to start my
own business and hire people so I could
start my own group. Or I could self
insure before we see the pediatric
cardiologist, but then I am paying much
more or even double insurance. I am
sensitive to this because I have a p.E.C.
And I don't want her in the same boat.
And she would be in the boat for a long
time until she is 65. And never be able
to get life insurance.

All I can suggest is come to canada.
Health care is waaay different (most is
free), especially when dealing with
children and medical conditions!

Hi,
i ran into medical problems as a child and
at the age of 19 I was diagnosed with
lupus. My parents never purchased life
insurance for me because I was covered
under there work untill I was 21 years
old. Unfortunately at 21 I was not
eligible for insurance. My advice is to
take out an outside life insurance policy
on any children wether they are sick or
not. Make sure it is one that they can
take over when they reach the age of
maturity. That way if they get sick as a
child they will still have insurance as an
adult. Hope this helps.
