Female w/ High Blood Pressure and Anxiety - Why?
Posted: 11-04-07 17:37pm

Hello I am new here and thought i would ask here. I am a 27 year old female and I developed high blood pressure 2 weeks before having my son. He is now 15 months old and I am still on meds for high blood pressure. I am on HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE25 MG AND LISINOPRIL 20MG both once a day. I am a teacher, new mother and I have anxiety that I take Cymbalta for. I am concerned because lately my doctor has been very prescription happy. (giving me basically anything I want) I have anxiety over lots of things especially dying and being diagnosed with high blood pressure has really caused my anxiety level to rise the past year. I am concerned that he hasnt run any test to find out WHY my blood pressure is still high. (high bp runs in my family) Has anyone been in a similar situation?

My blood pressure was usually around 140's /90ish - 95ish. before meds
With just hydrochlorothiazide it was around 130/85-90
He just put me on lisinopril and now my bp is around 117/70's.

Is my current bp okay? or is it to low? Also I HATE taking meds. What other options do I have? My doc hasnt mentioned anything but changing my job and that is really out of the question!

Any recommendations or Stories would be greatly appreciated!!! Freaking out! i dont want to have to be on meds this early in life!

Normal blood pressure for most adults is less than 120/80 mm Hg and I think your bp is ok now.
Drug treatment is recommended if your blood pressure is at or above 140/90 mm Hg as in your case.
Did you have chronic hypertension before your pregnancy?
Are you overweighted?
Have you been suggested to exercise and make healthier food choices for 3 to 6 months before going on medicines for second time?
