How old are you?
Have you experienced a dirty white, greenish or black nipple discharge?
Do you have tenderness in the nipple or surrounding breast tissue?
Can you noticed redness on your breast?
Do you have a lump or thickening?

I have no discharge. My breast and nipple are a little tender. Have not noticed the redness. I feel a couple small lumps but my breast feels heavy if that makes any sense.I am 47 years old. thanks

There can be two reasons for your inverted nipple.
One is Inflammatory Breast Cancer and Mammary duct ectasia.

Mammary duct ectasia occurs most often in women in their 40s and 50s during or after menopause. It often causes no symptoms, but some women may have nipple discharge and breast tenderness.
Despite those two symptoms (a dirty white, greenish or black nipple discharge, tenderness in the nipple or surrounding breast tissue), you can experience redness, lumps or thickening and an inverted nipple.
Mammary duct ectasia occurs when a milk duct beneath the nipple becomes dilated and filled with fluid. You may need surgery to remove the affected milk duct.

Please, talk with you doctor about these two conditions.
Best wishes!
Marija

I'm very happy that your medical case turn out to be benign.
You need to know that a bacterial infection such as mastitis also may develop in the affected milk duct and cause inflammation and fever.
Some studies has shown that along with hormonal changes, smoking and lack of Vit. A can be reason for dilated and inflamed milk duct.

Do you have history of breast infection (mastitis)?
