"Most teens get pregnant on purpose
because other life goals
seem out of reach, says Cornell
researcher
Expert Andrea Parrot calls for new
multi-dimensional approach"
I belive it,so many teen girls in my town
are pregnant or have a child. It's actually
kind of ridiculous if you ask me.Half of
these girls in my town are not caring
mothers it's sad.

not one of my friends who have babies got
pregnant on purpose, most of them were
careless with birth control but none got
pregnant because they specifically wanted
a baby

i'm just saying that the statement isn't
100% accurate. i don't know what it is
like in other areas, but it doesn't seem
the case in my areas. most people my age,
whether pregnant, or have a baby, actually
still have the same goals as before and
i'm glad to say that they are still
attending school or college to further
their career

But did the statement say ALL GIRLS? No..
It says this:
""Most teens get pregnant on purpose
because other life goals
seem out of reach,"
You just said none of your friends got
pregnant on purpose, so they are not even
being discussed in this article, right?

yes you are right. my opinion is, if
someone wanted to get pregnant on purpose,
is not because their life goals seem out
of reach. it really seems that the teens
who do get pregnant on purpose, think that
they are ready for a baby of their own and
want a family. i don't know if this is
because of their upbringing (eg parents
not being there for them). there's plenty
of factors why someone so young would want
a baby. i seriously wouldn't wish it upon
anyone. it is hard work, especially in the
first few weeks when all you want to do is
rest and you have a screaming baby to look
after. your life will never be the same
again.
you're very opinionated are you

I really can't bring myself to put too
much faith into a study that says "Most
people" (people of any group, not
necessarily teenage moms). I mean, how
could they possibly know that?
I skimmed the study, so perhaps I missed
it, but who was their sample? Is it "Most"
teenage moms at the university? "Most"
teenage moms in the city? "Most" of the
teenage moms they could get their hands on
and convince to answer their questions?
If they actually do have a legitimate
sample, and did a legitimate study then
they must actually have something worth
reporting.... shouldn't they? And how on
earth would they qualify "Most"? More than
40%? 60%? 80%?
The way it's all presented it seems
awfully subjective, unscientific and just
plain bad reporting.
Needless to say, until I see something
more conclusive I really can't buy into
it. Sorry.

It is actually my thoughts that anyone who
does not prevent pregnancy in this
day and age is, in a way, trying to become
pregnant.
Teenage girls have more access now to
birth control than at any other time in
history. It is a sad state of affairs when
they are choosing not to use it and, in
turn, becoming teenage moms. There is more
to life.

I don't think the problem is that they are
trying to become pregnant by doing this.
I think one of the huge problems is that
girls aren't educated enough about birth
control. It is true that they have more
ways to get it, such as some schools,
planned parenthood, etc, but at the same
time, a lot of young teens don't realize
that these options are available. Some
teens are too young to drive, and they are
afraid to ask their parents to take them.
I'm not saying this is an excuse, because
I know it definitely isn't, but I'm just
trying to throw in a point from their
perspective. Also, I think a lot of them
don't realize how serious birth control is
and the risks of not taking it at the same
time/every day. A lot of teens are still
in the "oh, it won't happen to me"
mentality.

Yu don't have to be sorry. Your post was
a very intelligent critique of the study.
That is the reason why it's important that
people post sources, so the reader can
decide for themselves how much credence to
give an assertion.
For me, just the few girls I've
corresponded with on this forum seem to
fall right in to what the study has shown.
They don't like school, they don't want
to just go work at some job, and they
think that motherhood is a career/job.

i did not plan on getting pregnant at all,
my goal in life is to work with horses, y
would i get myself pregnant, i just have
to wait that bit longer to reach it, but
someday i will.
Allthough, one girl at my old school put a
hole in the condom and ended up pregnant
JUST to keep her bf, she is now pregant
with the 3rd and married at 19.

I for sure didn't get pregnant on
purpose.
I knew I wasn't ready to settle down and
before I found out I was pregnant I had
actually left my bf.I went back to him
when I found out I was pregnant which was
probably a big mistake because now(2 years
later)I am back on my own with 2 years of
being a stay at home mom and pretty much
no resume.

um... it's my experience that a lot of
teenage mothers didn't explicitly TRY to
become pregnant. however, they did not
take appropriate precautions NOT to become
pregnant. i can understand maybe an
eighteen or nineteen year old girl
becoming pregnant and having a baby
because other goals seemed unreachable,
but i think most teenagers within their
high school years are rather hopeful about
their goals. i think most teens in this
day and age realize that having a baby is
a harder accomplishment than just getting
a job, or even going to college.
however, teenage pregnancy does not
prevent the mother from doing either by
any means. it may set back goals a little,
but it should never snuff them out
completely.
i personally do not know a single teenage
girl who actually tried to become
pregnant, and i know quite a few teenage
mothers.

I was on birth control and we always used
a condom
I was definately trying to prevent the
pregnancy but I am really happy that I got
pregnant now.At the time not so much but
my son is the most amazing person in my
life.
