Q: Purell

Hi all. I was told by my doctor that Purell is safe during pregnancy. I use it constantly, but now I am worried that it may not be good used so often. I thought maybe it would make me feel better if other pregnant women used it too! Smile Thanks!

Purell? The hand sanitizer? How is this going to be harmful during pregnancy?

Twilite, in reading your posts, I see you are very concerned about potentially harming your pregnancy with chemicals. If you are at all disturbed by using the Purell during your pregnancy, don't use it. Use antibacterial soap, like dial or something.

As far as another post you had about cleaners and the potential for them to leech into your food, that is unlikely unless you dunk your food in cleanser. However, if using cleanser near your foods, use something 'natural' like baking soda and water mixed. It makes a gentle scrub. You can also use vinegar and water. The smell isn't too great, but it will not harm anything. Dish soap works great too!

Are you often disturbed with thoughts of poison chemicals harming you and the baby? Have you spoken to your doctor about this?

I am nervous about hurting the baby. I think it is hard because, since my husband is in the Navy, I have to do all the cleaning. And well, sad to say, I have never been much of a cleaner. But now I want to keep the place clean because I don't want to expose myself to germs and hurt the baby. So, I clean, and then I worry that the cleaning will hurt the baby! It's just been stressful having to do it all on my own. I just want to do what is best for the baby!

I'm sorry you are doing it on your own. But women actually clean for a living (cleaning ladies) when they are pregnant. Hundreds of millions of babies are born every year and nearly everyone uses cleaning products. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Smile

Thank you for your concern. It really makes me happy that you were concerned. It's easy to feel so alone and confused here without my husband and with friends and family so far away. I got so scared when I learned that bacteria could hurt my baby. And then I got so scared when I tried to clean. I can't win! Haha. I am trying to learn to enjoy it. Smile I really am excited and happy though.

Well, bacteria isn't really going to harm your baby. Not unless you are eating raw foods or digging your hands in the cat litter. Smile
