Differin Gel
Posted: 04-07-04 12:21pm

I am using differin gel and I have been using it since the beginning of march without skipping any days. I am using it like ti says, once in the night before I sleep. I read on the package that it could/will make acne worse, then it'll clear up? Does anyone know about this? My face has gotten pretty bad now, when does it start helping? Any info??

I am an adult w/acne/rosacea and believe me I know how you feel. I have had it since like 12yrs old now 30!. Sometimes I feel like I will never know what it is like to have clear skin. I have tried so many products even expensive ones.
I used differin gel too. I just stopped using it after a while. But yes it does take time for this stuff to work, I know this now. It will take weeks even months. Sometime the acne does get worse before it gets better, as annoying as that is.
But! (i told this to another person on this site)
i just got a new family physician and he has been trying to help me fight this darned acne. First he refilled my perscription for erythromycin benzoyl peroxide topical gel. I have been using this for a while, yrs. I do dislike it because it has to be refridgerated (so it a hassle to take it when I travel) it also bleaches clothing, so you have to be very careful. I had been using it but it seemed like it just was'nt enough to clear my skin.
Now the doctor is trying a oral perscription med called doxycycline, it is used to treat various things including acne. I feel as though it is working but it took about 5 wks. So he has added retina to my regimen too. But I have'nt started it yet. Now these things are covered under my insurance and thank god because the gel is about $100 a 46.6g jar! I only pay $10. The doxycycline is already cheap but I pay like 60 cents for one month and finally the retina was like $58 but my insurance approved to cover it because the doctor authorized it.
So I know this is alot of info but I just wanted to spread this around so maybe it can help other people too.
Go ahead and ask your doc and research these things on the net like I did.
So far my skin is about 60% better than it was and that feels great! But it does take time and I know it is frustrating! But hang in there, I did. And I never wear makeup to try to cover it because it is even worse for the skin. So that makes it even tougher to step out and face the world.

I used to use this thing called benzamycin topical gel witch is the same thing. It made my skin better ever time I would use it but if I would use it continuously it would dry out my skin which would case me to stop using it and then my acne would get worse again. I really need to see a dermetologist to see what's better for me. Ooh and I never knew you were supposed to fridgerate it. I used to get the same thing but in little already mixed packets but it used to leave white streaks on my face when I used it in the mornings. I don't know what I should do now.

This stuff does not work. I have been using it for over 4 months and I show no signs of improvement, just sore and redness.

Differin gel will work, but it does take time. I was on it for almost five months, I believe, and it had just started to clear my acne when I ran out. Also, it causes a lot of problems with the sun, causing severe burns and pain. Embarassed

if it doesn't work on it's own for you, you should see about combining it with an oral medication. The best combination I found was erythromycin and tetracycline. Within a month I was cleared up completely.

It doesn't work for everybody but differin is workin' for me. I only been using it for 4 weeks now along with an antibiotic and I am seeing improvement.
