Degenerative Arthritis And Facial Deformity

Can degenerative arthritis of the jaw (supposedly I have no discs left) cause deformity of the face? I am seeing a plastic surgeon in a couple of weeks and an oral surgeon in January. I know my jaw is moving back because my chin is looking pretty weird. Is there anything that can be done for this? Has anyone else had this problem? Thank you.

it could i suppose because of the fact that th jaw is sliding bone on bone. what id be more worried about is ankylosis--the bones fusing together. the surgeons will know what to do and beleive me there is something they can do for you.

Thank you once again. I had never heard of this ankylosis. The oral surgeon who gave me the diagnosis was not a nice person. He never said anything except nothing could be done. I have an appointment in January with another one. You have to wait a long time to get in as you probably well know. You continue to give me hope. Thanks again.

Becky,
Don't feel like your on lonely street. Many of these so called professionals are very rude. Do you happen to live in Kalamazoo?

Are you familiar with condylar resorption? It can be related to arthritis of the TMJ and can cause retrusion of your chin. My daughter was given this diagnosis recently.

No, I have not heard of this, but I am certainly going to investigate it. The doctors think I am crazy, but after all this problem with my jaw, my lower skin has started sagging to the point where the plastic surgeons are recommending a minilift. My dentist tried to give me the lecture about everyones skin starts sagging when they are a certain age. I tried to tell him my chin was losing tissue and sagging because of all this other stuff going on. Thank you again for this information. This is so important because having plastic surgery for sagging skin will do no good unless the root of the problem is addressed.

Join the group, the last OS I've seen complained about my behavior while it was him from the first minute very angry and upset. I wonder if it's time to start filling complaints for unprofessional, or discriminatory treatment/demeanor. I wonder if it is possible to tell the doctor that you are here for answers, and you are not there for doctor to went off on you if she is having a trouble he should get that resolved first before coming to see patients.
