Q: Asking to Be Induced?

I was just wondering if any of you ladies requested to be induced and did your doctor do it?

I was thinking about getting ask to be induced at 39 weeks, because I'm off of school for week. So it'd be nice to relax with Dante and Thomas without having to worry about school for that week. Also if I go overdue, I don't want to end up missing my finals which are the 2 weeks after my due date.

Am I crazy? lol. Confused I'm not even sure my doctor would do it or if I should even bother. Any suggestions?

My doctor is going to be away when i am due and she wants to induce me.

It didnt worry me at first but i started my birthing and parenting classes last week and now i am willing not to have my doctor there to deliver gracie because of what the labour is like. contractions are alot more intense and a heap of other stuff that totally put me off it.

But of course what ever is best for you. There is no harm in asking them they will give you a straight answer!! Smile Hope you get the answer you looking for!!

my doctor refused to induce me. Only at my actual due date did she setup an induction date and I went into labor before that. The only problem is that unless you know the exact date there is that two week margin your flirting with. I went into labor at 39 weeks 4 days and they said she looked to be 38 weeks gestation. Had I of been induced a week or two earlier she may of had breathing problems, plus your asking for a much more difficult, long birth (not always but it is a huge risk) plus other complications. I know how hard it is to be patient but the baby will come when it is ready and your body will handle the labor much better if it does it on its own.

Yea I see what you're saying. I know my cousin got induced a day before her due date and everything turned out fine, but that doesn't mean it will be the same for me.

But I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. I know she can always say no. I just wish he'd come before then. These last few weeks are hell for me, esp since I'm still working and going to school. Sad

You can ask. To me it seems like doctors in the US are much more willing to induce than in the UK so actually asking to be induced seems very strange to me. I was only allowed to be induced once i was 10 days overdue and even then i couldn't be because i was 4cm dilated already with no labour. Dante will come when he's ready to, keep in mind that sometimes an induction won't work if the baby and your body isn't ready

Induction isn't always the best option. I was induced at 37 weeks & I was very lucky that I was able to have a natural birth. After two lots of gel stuff to soften my cervix, my real contractions finally started (after about 16 hours of severe cramping pain from the gel) & I was already very tired by then. I wish I could have gone into labour naturally, & I hope next time I can.

Whatever happens, your little guy will be here soon! =)

I was induced for both of my kids....my first one lasted about twelve hours from the time that they started the drip to the time of delivery. So that wasn't too bad. For my daughter it was more like 16 hrs but he started me first on the gel, so it took a little longer to get the contractions going. So I wasn't in pain the entire 16hrs. So all in all I had good experiences with it.

It doesn't hurt to ask your doc......all he can say is "no". If he is ok with it than just make sure that you do your research. There is a risk of complications.......and some women who have experienced being induced and having it start naturally have said that it was way more intense being induced. You have to do what is right for you......and what you are most comfortable.

So good luck.......and hopefully it will happen on its own right when you need it to!! Smile Who am I kidding.......babies don't co-operate....they like to torture us and make us wait......lol

My dr. is inducing me on Monday, I'm 38 weeks.

If you have a good reason then your dr. may do it

I was induced with both of my children, my dr and i talked and decided that was the best option for me and both of my kids were fine, and my labors were short, 10 hrs with my daughter and 3 with my son and that was from when they induced me to birth not when contractions started!

I would never ask to be induced if I wasn't in danger. My fiirst one was the most horrible experience of my life. I never had a break between my contractions. It was awful. With my second I was 6 1/2 cm dilated and 100% effaced just sitting around chatting with my family and had my daughter on my lap. It never hurt. I was up to 8 cm when I was finally prepped for my (mandatory) c-section because my baby was breech. I don't know how much of it contributed to being induced, but I would never reccommend it unless it were absolutely necessary. Just my 2 cents worth.

Your cervix has to be "right" to be induce. You have to be effaced and dilated. Otherwise, you could end up with a section.
