Milk Allergy
Posted: 11-13-07 12:34pm

Has anyones baby suddenly developed a milk allergy after being on formula for several months? The last week or so, Chandler really fights having his bottles. When he does finally eat it, its only because he is starving and finally gives up fighting it. He has a rash on his back and belly also. Plus he has 3-4 very runny and mucousy poopy diapers each day. This I know is too much for one baby. He has also been spitting up 3-5 times a day as well. That is something he has never done. We are off to see the doctor this week to see if maybe this is whats going on, or if it could possibly just be a bug. I am hoping its just a bug. Anyways, if anyone else has experienced this I would love some input.

Just wondering, how old is the child and what did you feed it when it was newborn?

it sounds to me like a bug more than an allergy.

The mucusy stool could be a sign of a slight infection.

Let us know how the Dr went!!

Chandler is 4 months old Thursday. He has been on Nestle GoodStart w/Iron, which we had to switch him from to Similac Advance Regular. The Iron in the first was constipating him and he was misserable. He has been fine since then until the last 5 days. I am thinking its more a bug than anything, however I do not want to rule anything out until I see the doctor. He is scheduled for his 4 month needles on Friday, but if he is still not feeling well I will be putting those off until he is. So, I will know more on Friday.

if you're going to wait until friday, just make sure he isn't getting dehydrated from all the pooping and not taking much formula. he should be having 3-4 wet diapers a day, at least.

Yup, he is having lots of wet diapers. I am monitoring that. He is peeing lots and its a good light color and not dark like it gets when they are dehydrated. Today he is eating a little better. we have 4 -6 oz bottles into him now and he is sleeping. He's been sleeping for 2 hrs now and I am guessing that he needs it or he wouldn't be as he usually doesn't. He will have another bottle when he gets up and then one before bed. I also think that he is changing his eating and sleeping pattern at the same time. It has been a fun week.

Update On Chandler
Posted: 11-24-07 18:38pm

Hi girls,

Sorry that I did not post earlier. Chandler does not have a milk allergy. We found out that we had a bad batch of bottled water and that is why he was having a hard time and why he was pooping so much. I also figured out that he has an allergy to Pampers and was getting the rash from that. I have since switched his water and diapers and he is fine. Thank goodness for that. He is doing really well so its all good.
