Hey so i scheduled my First Prenatal appt.
with my ob gyn on December 6. I will be 8
weeks than. Im just curious as to what all
will happen at this appt, also i've read
diffrent things about when i will be able
to hear the babys heart beat. I've heard
sometimes as early as 8 weeks sometimes
not till 12. Just wondering what i can
expect.. thanks!

Expect to be there for a while. This is
what happened at my first appointment:
Weight/height check
Blood pressure check
Ask a BUNCH of questions
Take a couple vials of blood (they check
for STDS and such)
After the basic physical, they will take
you back to the room...
You get into the paper robe
They will most likely do an ultrasound (by
insertion-not by scanning the belly)..
You will get to *SEE* the heartbeat, not
be able to actually listen to it for a few
more weeks.

Uhm... maybe it depends on the OB? Because
mine went:
Filled out buttloads of paperwork on my
insurance and sexual history, daddy's
sexual history, family health history, and
daddy's family health history
Weight check
Blood pressure check
Breast exam
PAP smear
Basic discussion on nutrition and what to
expect the first month
Lots of blood drawn
And that was basically it.

mine was the same as katrina's, though
broken down into 2 appointments (one for
paperwork, one for the exam) and i just
got the paperwork for bloodwork which i
had to go do on my own time. not everyone
gets early ultrasounds.
also, with my son, i got to hear his
heartbeat at 9 weeks exactly and the
doctor was surprised. i've never heard of
anyone hearing it before 9 weeks, so they
may not even try with you. if they do,
don't be upset if they don't find it, it's
still early.

My first app. was at 13 weeks, so I got to
hear the heartbeat. I left it out though
because you won't get the Doppler so
early... I don't know about the ultrasound
though, I didn't get my first one done
until the 18 week mark.

Wow, they did an ultrasound at my very
first appointment. They wanted to see
about how far along I was that way.... I
dunno! Every doctor is different I guess

My first appt I had a full exam, lab work
and paperwork I had an ultasound 3 weeks
later. I was only 6 weeks 5 days at the
ultrasound appt. and i actually saw and
heard the heartbeat. I am considered high
risk so they did one early. They did the
vaginal ultrasound.

My very first appointment was just with
the practioner, this was at 8 weeks. She
took down all of mine and my husband's
family medical history, took my weight and
blood pressure, talked to me a little bit
about what to expect throughout the rest
of the first trimester, prescribe my
prenatals and sent me on my way.
My first appointment with the OB was at 13
weeks, I had blood work, a pap and breast
exam. We heard the heartbeat and he
talked to me a little bit about things to
expect throughout the second trimester.
