ISO economical health insurance plan - are "saver" plans good? Posted: 11-17-07 07:53am
Hi all,
I am looking for a health insurance plan
and want to keep my costs down. One of my
options is a "saver" plan with a premium
that is 20% less than the regular
coverage. I am also looking at a
hospital-only plan which is even less. My
agent is advising against the plans. I
think it is just because he wants me to
pay a higher premium so that he can earn a
more as commission. Please advice!

Hospital only plans are a pretty bad idea.
The costs of out-patient services can be
tremendous over time, and most medical
care is delivered that way, short of major
surgery or a catastrophic incident. After
you're "patched up" at a hospital, you
usually get doctor care in their office or
in another non-hospital setting.
Insurance will cover none of that.

I have Blue cross blue shield of NC, A PPO
Plan.
I pay 210 a month, 1,000 deductible.
Office visit copay, ER copay, all that
good stuff.
I DID have a hospital only plan for
awhile, but it was really a waste of
money. I like MY doctor, my GYN provider,
and my ins allows me to see who I want
when I want.
You are TRULY better off with a PPO, or
regular style health insurance plan.
You can also buy a policy BY YOURSELF
without an agent, if you are wanting to
look at your options.
That is what I have done, I went straight
to the ins company.
