Could This Be Gall Bladder Problems?
Posted: 11-18-07 22:47pm

I am a 30 year old female with an extensive family history of gall bladder problems (mom, dad, 3 aunts, grandmas all had their gall bladders removed). On Friday, I woke up at 6am, after a fattening meal at 9pm the prior night, with sharp, cramplike pains in my upper central abdomen. While the pain started in the middle, it moved under my right rib cage as the day continued. I developed a low grade fever that peaked at 101 on Friday and has been about 99 since them (now Sunday night). I have had a little diarrhea, which is bright yellow but no vomiting. The cramping was severe for about 3 hours on Friday and intermittent the rest of Friday and Saturday. Today, it has calmed down although I have residual soreness in my upper right abdomen with an incredible amount of belching/gas. Is it normal to have a low-grade fever with gallbladder problems? Does this sound like a gall bladder problem or more like the flu? I have had this pain before but it generally only last 2 hours and isn't quite as severe.

Sounds like classic symptoms of an acute attack of cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder) which many of my patients describe as well. It is possible to have a fever with this condition. I wouldn't be surprised if they found inflammation and or stones with an ultrasond exam.
Hope this helps.
