Alprazolam Addiction - Can't Sleep W/o It Posted: 11-21-07 15:21pm
I've been addicted for 2 years but its
getting worse. I started taking .05 mg
around 3 am so I could go BACK to sleep.
Now I can't go to sleep at all with it.
.05 mg lasts about 3 hrs. I wake up at 2
am and need another.
How do I get off this stuff and sleep
again without this drug?

You can't. Benzodiazapams are very
addicting and the longer you are on them
the worse it is to get off. Some have to
even go into rehab to get off of them. I
was an it for 4 years and then was
switched right over to Klonopom which is
also a Benzo, so I had no problem
switching because they have almost the
same componients. Xanex is one of the
hardest drugs to stop without help. Now if
you were only taking it for a few weeks,
there would be no problem.
I remember once I could not afford my RX
and had to wait three days. By day two, I
was going through such withdrawl it was
aweful. By day three, I thought I was
going to die. That day I filled my RX and
bought a bottle of water and took one
right in the parking lot. I was on 2mg
three times a day! Now that's alot.
Although, I do have severe aniety and
panic. Don't by any means stop it on your
own!

I ws on Benzodiazepines for 1 1/2 yrs. it
screwed me up bigtime. Its adverse effect
were crazy. wws loosing my memory nd my
concentration went 2 zero. Thankfully I
hve a background in medicine I slowly
started dose reduction I wud get it out of
my system but wud relapse nd increase my
dosages. Kept trying for a year with no
success. I uped my dose so much it actully
caused depression 4 me. I finally kicked
the habit, the withdrawal is really bad,I
went cold turkey. I jst decided 2 cut my
self off. Its been 3months nd my sleep
cycle tuk abt 2wks to get back 2 normal..

oh alprazolam has long history in my
family. My aunt and uncle has been
addicted to it all their lifes. My aunt
was using it for so long it had no effect
anymore and has been different drug after
the other. She is screwed up. Like any
other drug addict. Talks like a zombie
now, it's really sad. Rehab should be the
best for her but at her age 70 something
she won't be up to rehabs. My uncle has
been on it for so many years but he still
is not as screwed up as my aunt I guess he
hasn't been on it as long but he sure
can't live without. That drug is great but
it is meant to only be used occasionaly in
extreme circumstances. Like I did took one
for my wedding to calm down my nerves and
it was fantastic. But that was it, only
one pill on one day and not anymore. This
is the way this drug should be used.

Also alprazolam has a very short life
span. It is mainly used for a severe onset
to calm you right down. The downside is it
only lasts a couple hours. You may need to
talk to your doctor about a longer timed
release medication. I am on one and sleep
preety good all night. In fact sometimes
to much. I would at least ask about it. I
was on 2mg three thimes a day. Started off
at .5mg. That shows you that your body
grows immune to the dose and keeps having
to be increased for the effects to work.
It really has a very short life span.
