a God Send? Or a Dog Send?

ok I have been diagnosed with TMJ about 6
months ago, i have been wearing a splint i
naver had experienced any locking or any
major headaches in my whole tenior with
TMJ, (trust me i do have it as i do
experience the cracking of the jaw) My
TMJD was to my understanding self
inflicted when i was younger i would
always pop my jaw manually sometimes even
with my hand i would press on the left
side trying to straighten out my "off
balance" jaw, now that i look back this
act sickens me i could not imagine how i
could do such a thing to myself if only i
could have been aware of TMJD...now that
you know my story tmjd background here is
the point to this topic......a few months
ago i had been religiousley wearing my
splint and i had just began experiencing
the main symptoms of TMJD headaches
fatigue etc etc, i just fought through
this and began praying and hoping that my
TMJD would vanish just straight up leave
me ALONE!! so a few weeks ago when my tmjd
was reaching the tip of the iceberg in
pain and nausea my dog got a gold of my
splint while i was eating i hadn't know of
this until around 30 minutes later when i
found it almost completely ripped
apart....SO here's the catch what could
have been a terrible situation turned in
to a truly and keep in mind my body and
jaw were in terrible shape as is.....i
decide to wear the one piece thats left
over from the splint dog massacre and it
has been magnificent ever since I don't
know what it was about how my dog took
care of the errors in my mouthpiece but
whatever she did has been working i have
never felt better my jaw feels good my
self esteem is sky rocketing, i have even
had people complement me on my looks ....
I know this is temporary because i have a
neuromuscular dentist appointment in about
a month but for now i feel amazing, a few
very pretty girls at school have even said
to me straight up that they would like to
date me and for me a few months ago i
don't really think this would happen to be
quite honest......i know this seems like I
was the deepend of the pool and now i have
shown leaks,(i have become shallow) but
when something like this happens it truly
does change you..........
ok so i am wondering what could be the
cause of these latest happenings with the
"dog" version splint? anythig scientific?
someone watching over me? whats your take
also any advice or just kind or negative
remarks about my very long post would be
greatly appreciated... thanks so much i am
only 17 so ya i got alot of life left
hopefully tmjd will be gone in a year or
two(i've had it for about 4-5 years
unknowingly) bye now!

Well--you are never supposed to leave
your split or orthodontic appliances in
reach of the dog. Doctors usually warn you
about the fact that dogs love the stuff
for some reason.
any way--what kind of splint was it? was
it flat plane or what? it could be that
the splint wasnt doing what it was
supposed to or it was the wrong kind of
splint. you may only need support for your
jaw where you have it now.
it could also very well be that this is
not the treatment that you need and your
joints (as with most of splint therapy)
are only being compressed and made worse.
if you have questions or need a doctor you
can always pm me or email me.

it was a mold of the top teeth so the
bottom can position themselvese, I have
had little to no improvement , this is why
i am gonna go with the neuromuscular
treatment.
I see lots of positives stemming from
neuromuscular treatments.
Also what do you mean exactly by my joints
are being compressed? if you could maybe
explain some symptoms of this that'd be
dandy thanks.!!!!

I am a result of neuromuscular
dentistry--I think i referred you? Can
remember IVe done so many of them.
Basically you have no improvement or you
do and then you slide back to where you
were if not worse. a splint basically just
puts space between your teeth and jams the
condyle furthere back into your skull. In
the long run it just causes more problems.
Do you have ear problems? thats on of
them.i have it when i compress it myself
by clenching or being uptight.

yes i did not have ear problems until a
few weeks ago and i have just started
getting the ringing tones in both ears. I
have also been experiencing tightness
around the ears.
The jamming of the condoyle does not sound
pleasant at all
also you did refer me thanks,
are these problems that the splint cause
reversible with the neuromuscular
treatment? I have only been wearing the
splint for a little less than a year now.
so basically the splint does no good
unless subscribed by a neuromuscular
dentist?

pretty much it dosent because the
neuromuscular orthotic is not designed to
do that its designed to retrain the
muscles to their proper position--not just
put space there.
yes these problems are
reversible----splint therapy is a
reversible treatment while braces and
surgery is non-reversible. meaning you can
undo it. nmd will be the best decision
you have ever made. beleive me you will
see results soon after you begin wearing
the neuromuscular orthotic

well let me just say that I am also a
singer:) i put it on hold as well. but i
sing now and im quite sure that you will
sing again--i do. you just must be careful
to not open too far. if it hurts give
yourself a break--ice the muscle give it a
little massage and keep on going. you can
also do exercises to strengthen the
muscle.

the average person is in phase 1 for 3
months. then perhaps a year on phase
2--its not very long.

no you wont ever have to not talk. ive
learned to talk with out moving my jaw at
all. even with my jaw wired shut i could
talk.--why would you have to wear a back
brace? they are only gonna work with your
mouth.

though.
