Voices In Stereo?
Posted: 11-27-07 14:09pm

I'm trying to help a friend sort out her symptoms as they relate to her recent diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. She has a lot of questions, specifically about the manner in which she perceives her auditory hallucinations:

Is it possible for people experiencing auditory hallucinations to hear them in stereo? Is it more common for the voices to be perceived as coming from a specific direction? Are the hallucinations clearly audible or a non-directional thought-like perception?

She's almost unable to describe what she hears. From what I can gather, it's almost as if the voices she hears don't come from any particular direction, but sometimes she makes it seem as if they're coming from a specific place. (She will turn her head upon hearing them)

In your experiences, of course. Thanks in advance

This can happen, yes, like wondering around one time losing my mind I heard a large evil man behind me taunting me, it sounded like it was behind me, however, it can also come from within. Yeah, it can sound as if there is actually someone there and coming from a certain direction.

Does that help?

They can be any of the above are common, although I guess that if it's more of a non-directional thought it wouldn't be considered an auditory hallucination (but some other kind of hallucination instead).

And the stereo thing is really common, or the tv, or secret messages in books, movies, etc.
