2nd Ultrasound.... Posted: 11-27-07 18:41pm
So i went for my unltrasound today at a
different hospital, and the technician was
really rude. She didnt say anything the
whole time and seh didnt print any
pictures out. When she was done all she
said was ok get dressed im going to send
the report to your doctor and you need to
call her in a few hours.....this freaked
me out.
So my boyfriend told me when we left that
he only saw the sac but it was a lot
bigger then before.
I kept calling my doctor all night, and
finally they called me back and she said
that they ultrasound only saw a
gestational sac and no fetal pole or
anything was detected but i was measuring
at 6 weeks...so she said i might have a
miscarriage, or my dates might be off.
I am scheduled to go back for another
ultrasound on monday and I have an
appointment on next wednesday. I had blood
work done on 11/15 and my doctors said
they still have not received the report.
My mom works in a doctors office and she
called the blood place and got a copy of
my bloodwork faxed to her, she said
everything looked pretty normal but that
there was no blood pregnancy test on the
bloodwork....
I am sooo upset and mad at the same time,
im almost close to switching doctors...!!!
Has anyone seen an empty sac around 6
weeks and everything turn out ok..???

I started crying earlier but my mom said
not to worry, beucase my aunt had a
ultrasound at 5 weeks only saw the sac,
then another at 7 weeks only saw the sac,
and at 8 weeks finally saw something, and
she just had a healthy baby boy in
august...and my sister said she didnt see
anything with my nephew untill 9 weeks.
Can that kind of thing be hereditary...??

im reaserching it for you
heres what ive found so far
Stay strong. It's still really early and
if their equipment is not the best then it
can be hard to see anything. That's why my
doc doesn't do scans until at least 8
weeks.

Hi there
I'm a 4th year ultrasound student and hope
i can provide some sort of insight. Please
don't think that all techs are horrible.
You have to understand that it is
definately difficult because we aren't
able to disclose any diagnostic
information to patients. The tech however
could have been a little bit more clear
with you to minimize your worry. It is
definately not uncommon to only see a sac
with no fetal pole or heart rate at only 6
weeks, especially if a transvaginal
ultrasound was not performed. What the
tech should have done was explained to you
that your dates could very well be a bit
off and it is too early to see what's
going on for sure. You should definately
return for a repeat scan to confirm growth
and a fetal heart rate in a week to 10
days. A bHCG (pregnancy) test should have
been done with your bloodwork to see if
the levels were dropping to give a better
idea if there is a miscarriage occuring or
not. There isn't much more the doctor
could do other than follow up with
ultrasound.
Sorry for your bad experience, i see this
a lot at my clinic. If you have any more
questions don't hesitate to ask.
