Nodes Swollen in groin and neck - no symptoms Posted: 11-27-07 21:38pm
Hi. I'm a male, 15 years old, and a
diabetic.
A few(6) months ago, I noticed 2 swollen
nodes in my right groin, and 3 in my neck.
None of the nodes are very big, I'd say
they're all easily under 1 cm, they're not
hard and can be moved around a bit. They
haven't grown at all since I discovered
them, and the ones in my neck are a bit
smaller than they were a few months
before. Is it possible I have "shotty"
nodes? I dont have any symptoms of
lymphoma or cancers like it. I don't have
a fever, night sweats, lack of energy or
fatigue. I actually have alot of energy,
and stay up until 2 am or later some
nights and don't get tired much the next
day. I haven't lost appetite, I have a
pretty good appetite mostly. Overall I
feel completely healthy, although I have a
little bit of a cold right now, and
surprisingly the nodes in my neck haven't
swollen up. I've had a physical and a
routine doctor appointment, and they felt
the front of my neck and my armpits, and
they never found anything of swollen
nodes.
Thank you

Swelling might occur even if the infection
is trivial or not apparent.
Are these swollen glands red and tender?

When lymph nodes are active in fighting
infection, they may become swollen and
painful. Usually, the pain is mild, and
the lymph node does not get much bigger
than 2 centimeters in size.
Most normal lymph nodes are about 1 cm in
size but that size varies depending on the
location of the node, and what activity is
going on.
Abnormal size of lymph nodes are size
bigger than 1 cm for neck lymph nodes and
size bigger than 1.5 cm for groin lymph
nodes.
Are you taking some meds?

I would definately say none are bigger
than 1 cm.
I'm not taking any meds for them, I'm on
insulin, for my diabetes.

So, there is no need to worry if your
nodes aren't bigger than 1 cm ( some
doctors accept the range 1-2 cm like
normal).
For some people at your age is normal to
feel their lymph nodes like swollen.
I'll try to get some other informations,
like if it's possible to get swollen lymph
nodes due to everyday administration of
insulin.
Waiting for your post!

Ok good that is a relief! And yeah, i was
also wondering if my age had to do with
anything, since my bodies growing and
whatnot.
Just wondering, would there be any red
flags that would signal cancer? As i said
before though, I have no symptoms..feel
pretty healthy. However over the past half
year my blood sugars have been a little
higher than usual..They're still not
terrible though.
Thank you again

I don't think you should worry for having
cancer.
It seems to me that you are perfectly
healthy.
Children and young adult tend to have a
more active lymphatic system, so their
glands may feel enlarged.
