TMJ limited opening and muscle fullness loss in face
Posted: 11-28-07 15:16pm

I've had limited opening for a year and a half (28MM or so) and i am able to eat anything w/o pain (i stay away for hard/sticky stuff). Anyway, I've noticed that the sides on my face have flattened/sunken in....my temples and under my cheekbones have hollowed out.

I am so frustered b/c i am getting married in 5 months and I don't look right Sad

I am trying to figure out ways to improve/plump up my cheeks but nothing seems to work Sad Any suggestions and/or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

well good for you---i mean staying away from sticky hard stuff--and getting married. unfortunately there really isnt a way to plump up but there is a treatment option that does work. you need to do some exercises to increase your opening. I have posted a thread on jaw exercises. i suggest you start them--you dont want to loose the opening. also you might want to try eating more of what you can eat. If you have questions feel free to contact me at any time. ill do all that i can to help you. Ive struggled with this all my life.

Thanks for your reply,

But if i have a displaced disc that doesn't recapture, how will doing exercices increase my opening? My disc will not recapture after a year and a half, right? My opening has stayed the same for over a year.

the exercises help the muscle not the disc. your muscles are gaurding the joint you want to have them not do that. you may also want to look into further treatment. your disc will be able to go back in unless it is damaged. i assume that you are going off of an mri right? mris are only 20% accurate. you may want to look into an arthrocentesis--the disc will go back if it can but it wont go back by itself
