30 Week Appointment and weight gain + pregnancy BP Posted: 11-29-07 13:26pm
So, I was ready for this appointment to be
over anyway. I drank my nice little orange
drink and went in. Everything was fine
until I ask the nurse how much I gained.
She wouldn't tell me. I waited for the
doctor and asked him and he said he didn't
want to talk about it. He measured me and
I am right on track. My blood pressure is
a little high and they want to watch that.
Then he told me how much I gained in the
last 6 weeks: 19 pounds . I have no earthly
idea how I gained this much. I'm actually
eating less now than before my last
appointment six weeks ago. I'm back down
to my kid-sized meals pretty much thanks
to the acid reflux. I don't know what to
do now. I'm just so depressed. I'd been
trying so hard not to gain too much
weight. I know I have some swelling and I
think that has some to do with this, but I
just don't know how much of that accounts
for the swelling. My husband's getting
upset with me on top of this because he
doesn't understand why I"m freaked out
about the weight gain. He says I should
just be happy that she's healthy-which I
am happy about don't get me wrong. I'm the
one that has to lose this afterwards
though. I'm just scared of what I'm going
to look like and how much more I'm going
to gain. I need a vacation right now. I
seriously feel like crying.

((((HUGS)))) I'm sorry you're having a
difficult time with the weight gain. It's
been the hardest part of pregnancy for me
too, mainly because I dealt with an eating
disorder while I was in college, and some
of those negative body image thoughts
still linger. I have been lucky to not
have a large weight gain during pregnancy
(up 17 lb.), though I did freak out a
little because I gained the weight
unevenly (gained 7-8 lb. in the first
trimester alone, when most women gain very
little if at all) but I think this is just
the way my body is carrying this pregnancy
as I have been eating enormously most of
pregnancy until recently. I do still
exercise 3-4 days a week, but my pace
& intensity is just barely there.
The good news is you are probably getting
close to leveling off on the weight gain
front. I know everyone is different, but
in my case, I have not really gained
weight since 31 or 32 weeks (sometimes,
I'm even down a lb. or 2 at the OB's
office now).
If you are having swelling and retaining
fluid, that can influence your weight
tremendously. I just have to eat a lot of
salt one day, and my weight is up by 5 lb.
the next morning. I haven't had a horrid
time with fluid retention during pregnancy
except when I eat saltier meals
(restaurant meals and especially Chinese
food), but I did have a bad reaction to
the last birth control pill I was on. I
retained SO much fluid, my feet and ankles
& knees swelled so bad, it hurt to
just walk around the house, and my weight
went up 20 lb. in 1 month (I am not
kidding, it was horrid) due to retaining
fluids. The good news is that weight is
all lost quickly once you have the baby
(or in my case, once I stopped the pill
& got it out of my system). I
remember just peeing and peeing like
crazy, and my weight went back down.
The other things you can do is to try to
avoid salty foods (don't cut out salt
completely because that's dangerous but on
the other hand, try not to add salt to
things or eat too many foods high in
sodium) and be sure to drink plenty of
water. It will help to flush the excess
fluid from your body.
((((HUGS)))) I know it is difficult. Feel
free to PM me if you like.

I know about the whole anorexia thing. I
struggled with that and overexcercising as
well. I kinda got over that when I met my
husband but I still struggle at times. BC
did a number on me as well. I went from
weighing 125 to 160 in four years. Part of
that was due to steroids (about 20 of that
actually). I was already a lot heavier
than I wanted to be before I got pregnant.
I know I should just be happy she's
healthy but I'm worried about me too. I
need to be healthy too. I'm not going to
do anything to hurt the baby of course.
I'm just really depressed right now.

Oh man, I'm sooo sorry about your weight
gain. TRUST ME, I've been there!!!!
With Oni, I was AVERAGING 12lbs at every 4
week appt!!! It got soo bad, that *I*
didn't even want to know anymore...
Tell your hubby to LAY OFF!! It's sooo
hard to deal with the gain, WITHOUT him
telling you to calm down. Has HE ever
gained 19lbs in a month and a half?!?! I
HIGHLY doubt it!!!
You MUST tell yourself that REGUARDLESS of
the gain, your baby is healthy. And trust
me, it's not as hard as you think to lose
the weight afterwards. You can take the
baby for a stroll, or even just stroll by
yourself.
My christmas gift is going to be a
membership to the gym!!!!!!! So I can
excercise the last month of pregnancy AND
the months after!!!!
I wish we lived closer!! We have so much
in common!!!
you're beautiful and I MUST see some new
belly shots!!!

I think I'm going to take some new shots
either tonight or tomorrow. It depends on
how I feel when Brandon gets home. I just
don't see how I gained so much. I really
don't eat much at all. I went to
Crackerbarrell yesterday and ate a kid's
veggie plate and that was enough to stuff
me. Well, I've nixed all the cokes and
water's my new best friend. I went walking
before work today for about 20 minutes so
I think I'm going to keep doing that too.
I wish we lived closer too. Maybe one of
these days when we go to Gulf Shores for
one of our yearly visits we can swing down
to New Orleans for a day and meet up. That
would be loads of fun.
Oh, I have a Curves membership waiting to
be reactivated once I start back to work
so I will be hitting the gym. I plan on
walking everyday after she's here too.
Maybe it will come off quickly. I'm
supposed to be in a wedding in June next
year.

I gained 59 lbs with Ava and it was really
hard for me. Sometimes I didn't know
where it came from b/c I didn't eat much
different. I did pig out sometimes, but
not all the time. One time I gained 11
lbs in 4 weeks. My dr. never fussed me
about it. He just said that at the end
the baby will start packing on the pounds
if I didn't slow it down with the weight
gain. I felt terrible about it. This
pregnancy I gained 1 lb in a week. I'm
hoping not to gain as much. Just to let
you know I've been there. It can come off
easy especially if you breastfeed. Don't
worry about it. Just eat when you're
hungry and worry about weightloss later.
You have a baby baking right now.

I gained 40 pounds with Jaylon and my doc
didn't rant at all about it. Your baby is
healthy and that's all that really matters

I gained almost 40 pounds in only 28
weeks! But a lot of mine was fluid. I've
lost 12 pounds already and I delivered 2
weeks ago today.

Aww hun gaining weight is hard... I gained
60 pounds when I was pregnant with Bella,
but now I have like 7 pounds to go to be
at my pre-pregnancy weight.
I remember my doctor actually told me I
had to stop eating at one appointment. I
flipped! The one time in mty life I can
eat whatever whenever and my own doctor
says that? I was furious.
The swelling does have a lot to do with
it, and I swear after I had the baby I
lost almost 40lbs immediately.
It'll work out, and don't feel bad for
feeling bad, it's completely natural!
Oh and By the way ... YAY FOR 30 WEEKS!
man you must be getting excited!

I totally understand where you are coming
from. I've gaind way more than i've
planned, and i still have 3 weeks left.
I'm up to 40 lbs. I started off a bit over
weight so i wanted to keep my weight to a
minimum, but i screwed that up. My doctor
has not said anything about my gain, but i
feel huge, and like a heffer. I don't even
pay attention anymore. If my doctors are
concerned then they will tell me. My BP
was a bit high at this last visit, but
they said i didn't have any protien in my
pee so maybe i was just excited. But like
the others said if your baby is healthy
then i wouldn't worry. I gained 10lbs at
one visit a couple of months ago. I was so
shocked. I was like you i haven't been
eating a lot, or a bunch of crap. I too
don't know where it comes from sometimes.

If I could suggest ANY type of advice
(besides excercise), it would be to NOT
eat after 7pm. I find that that's helped
me LOADS!!!!
Oh and get a scale. I weight myself every
morning so whenI go into the Dr's I'm not
in COMPLETE shock!! LOL!
But you look GREAT!!!

Holy Crap! I gained 68 lbs but I still
have 20 to lose so that I am down to what
I want to be which isn't even my
pre-pregnancy weight!
Don't feel bad though. Weight sorta just
happens with a healthy pregnancy.

Hey Monkey girl, I am going through the
exact same thing as you, I gained 18lbs
form my 26wk visit to my 30wk visit. For a
total weight gain of 48lbs so far. And I
am eating approximately the same as pre
pregnancy. My Doctor just kinda said that
maybe I am not aware of what I am eating,
I kinda chuckled.
I also struggled with anorexia in the past
and if there is anything I know, is that I
am aware of what I eat. Maybe our body is
worried we may to into starvation again,
and it cant do that with a baby on board
so it hoards everything????
Dont worry to much about it, I think
everyone woman's body reacts different to
pregnancy. Just as long as baby is healthy
and baby isnt growing to big, everything
is fine!
