Unlikely. It is risky. Some doctors won't
do it.
It is an amniocentisis. You can ask, but I
doubt that will happen.
Good luck.

Infection. The baby could die. You can
look up amniocentisis. The risks can be
too great if you 'only' need it for
paternity issues.

She may decide to get an amniocentesis
test done anyways to test for downs.
They'll do an ultrasound/blood work test,
but if things come back looking like
there's a high chance for DS they'll offer
to do an amniocentesis. Usually a doctor
will refuse to do it for any other reason,
like Ingi said.

About what? Downs Syndrome, the
ultrasound, or amniocentesis?

I know what ultrasounds are.. And how soon
can they do those??
Because right now she is 22 weeks.. Would
she have to ask for them to be done?
Im still confused on the amniocentesis, I
know its risky and why a little bit. But
dont fully understand it..
And what is Downs Syndrome?

Well, firstly, has she gone to the doctor?
I've just been popping in and out of this
thread, and I didn't catch if she did. She
should have had at least one ultrasound by
now, doctors do one between 18 and 20
weeks. It's typical procedure, to check
for fetal abnormalities and to check the
sex.
Downs Syndrome is a genetic disorder. It's
when the baby has an extra set of
chromosomes, and depending on how "severe"
the Downs is, the baby has mild to severe
learning disabilities. My cousin has
medium severity, and she is
developmentally on the same level as a 2
year old even though she's 5. Some people
with Down's are just slightly slower, but
can lead totally normal lives.
Doctors will offer to test for it first
with an ultrasound and blood work. They
can't really do it after 20 weeks though,
so I'm not sure if there's other options
aside from amniocentesis at 22 weeks
because I got mine done early in the
pregnancy.
Amniocentesis is where they take a little
bit of amniotic fluid from the uterus. The
fluid is what the baby's floating in, and
it contains the baby's DNA. There's a risk
of infection or leakage from the puncture
not healing properly, and a higher chance
of a miscarriage, which is about 1 in 200.

Yea unfortunatly she waited this long to
start going.. But she started going this
week. And what not. But im just happy she
is going now.
So with DS theres no way really to check
if that or any other thing is happening to
the baby?
With the testing.. Is that 1 in 200
getting an infection, and a miscarriage?
Or is that Not having that happen to
somebody?

As far as I know, there's no other way to
test for Downs aside from that ultrasound
test or amniocentesis. I'm not sure on
that one though, because those were the
only two options given to me since my
ultrasound test came because looking
normal. She can always check with the
doctor.
And it's a 1 in 200 of miscarrying. I'm
not sure on the statistics of infection.

Her insurance more than likely will not
cover her 'request' for a DS amnio test.
Unless she has high risk factors.
She should be having an ultrasound at some
point very shortly to DATE her pregnancy.
Since she waited so long to go see a
doctor, any doctor should be scheduling
her an ultrasound within the month. This
would be the time frame the average woman
gets an ultrasound anyway. If she is 22
weeks, she could even find out the sex of
the baby.
By the size of the baby, they can tell how
far along she is.

Sorry I havnt been able to post lately ive
been tied up.
But anyways here's an update, she got an
ultrasound done and she is 24 weeks, and
Im having a little Boy =)
But her parents had called mine to see
what they thought about the whole
situation.
And my parents said they dont agree with
it, and will not support it any way and
what not (already stated this to you guys
and them before)
But my dad decided to be a dick and tell
them that I am Dillusional, Psychotic,
Mental, Crazy etc. That I have a Probation
Officer that wont let me do caca, and that
there is a detective out there that thinks
I have no business raising a child in the
state of Nevada, and if she did find out I
was she would call CPS.. And now Heather
doesnt know who the hell to believe. Or
what to believe.
So she told me that she doesnt want to
take the risk of her son getting taken
away from her because thats all she has
left (what she still has everything)
So with this im trying to convince her
otherwise because I would know if I was
mental or not, and if I had a PO (never
had one btw) and a dective on my ass..
And besides I dont think CPS would ever
take a child away from me.. My child would
have what they need when they need it, and
plenty of food, diapers, cloths, rest,
well treated etc. So they would have no
grounds to do so correct?
And besides I dont think they want to take
the chance of coming on base, and going to
a MP's house and demanding his child..
Personally I dont think that would be too
smart on their behalf (that was susposed
to be comic relief right now)

Well if shes had an ultrasound and her
parents know... I'd have to guess yes.
Tyler - just go get a psychological
evaluation done. The shrink will say
you're not crazy, and there ya go.

there was a question asked about if she
could be forced to give up her child? In
some states if the mother is a minor the
parents CAN force her to give up the baby
but since she is so close to 18 now I
don't thin it is possible. And like
Katrinadoodle said, get a psychological
evaluation done.

No they can't. It is the mothers decision
always, regardless of age.

In Michigan the parents CAN make the minor
give up the child. My ex looked into it
because he was trying to get my mom to do
it.
I'm trying to find where he got that
information from.
