What Can I Expect At My First Re Appt?
Posted: 11-30-07 09:12am

Hi ladies! My appt is Dec 5th (5 days, yay!!!) And I'm torn. On one hand I feel so happy to finally be able to get some answers (and maybe a period) But on the onther hand, I'm really upset that it has come to this. I feel like I'm so broken, I mean women have been reproducing since the beginning of time...and I can't.

Anyway..enough of my pitty part (sorry, I've been really down the last few days). I was wondering what all I should expect at my first appt with my RE?

I know they will do an transvag u/s (because the nurse reminded me it is not included in the $300+ office visit) But I'm not sure what else to expect. I've already filled out what feel like 1000 pages on me and dh (ok, maybe it was only 23) So, I'm not sure how much more history they will need.

Thanks!

I can't give you any help about what to expect at your visit. I just wanted to wish you luck and hope that you finally get some answers. Out of anyone that I have ever talked to that is trying ttc you for some reason have really struck a cord in my heart. I am just waiting for the day that you make a post saying that you are pregnant. sorry i don't want to sound like a sappy freak considering that fact that I have never met you but I can really feel your pain when I read your posts. Not to mention the fact that with everything you are going through you are still a great help to all of the ladies on here.

I know that right now it seems like you have to go through a lot and it is totally unfair (which I think it is too) but I am sure that it will be all worth it on the end.

Good luck hun and I wish that I was there right now to give you a big hug Smile

Good luck! It will be fine. My first appt. we just talked ALOT. Write down any and every question you have no matter how silly they may seem. Get it all out on the table. If DH hasnt has a SA, they will probably give you an order for that. They will probably do blood tests to check for thyroid problems and PCOS, and give you orders to go for your cd3 blood work, and possibly set you up for a hsg on cd 7-9. I didn't receive clomid until all the monthly bloodwork was done on the day of the hsg. Since you are getting an US, maybe they will start you on something next cycle! More than likely clomid. I'm so excited for you! It seems like you just need alittle help ovulating and you'll be preggo in no time!

Remember that most people who go to an RE end up getting pregnant. Its not the end of the world and sometimes they can pinpoint an issue that is easy for them to fix. They have more experience than OB/GYNs with the easy issues and the hard issues. And yes, there have been women since the beginning of time who have a hard time getting pregnant. It is much better to be alive today when medicine can actually do something about it.

Like Mrs LTD, my first visit was a lot of talking and no U/S. The RE reviewed my ff charts and our medical history. We discussed our choice on genetic testing. He recommends at least getting checked for CF. But we decided that if we were willing to take what God gave us naturally, then we can take what God gives us through IUI or IVF.

Since we didn't have any tests, he went over the tests that we were going to take and the treatment options available with the various outcomes. Basically, for us there are two treatment options, IUI and IVF. No clomid only option. After we were done consulting with the doctor, we had a second consult with a nurse assigned to be out main contact person. She gave us all of our referrals and she gave us tons of information on IUI and IVF and the choices we would have to make.

I'm scheduled for my HSG on Tuesday, Dec 4. I still am anxious about the insurance, though. They wanted the results of my dh's SA, which they've had for over a week. If I don't get certainty by Monday, I think I'll have to reschedule. In some ways I with I wasn't insured. It's hard to spend an extra $1000 have a test 4 weeks earlier, but if you pay the full amount no matter what then you'll have the test sooner. I wish I could just be excited to be getting the test.

Thats right, it is their job to get you pregnant. I am positive you will be fine and you will come back with a wealth of knowledge.

I am still patiently waiting and trying not to worry about things. We are going to wait till after the first of the year to really try again.

Let us know how it goes

Thanks ladies.

I'm starting to get really excited. This will be the longest two days ever.

I just pray she says 'everthing looks pretty good. It's just this one hormone. Here take this pill once a day and call me when you get your bfp.'. But, I think that might be a little bit of a stretch.

I hope they don't do a sa right away. I think that will be pulling teeth for that to happen. Rolling Eyes Plus, I doubt it's cheap.

You ladies will be the first to know how it goes!

Actually the SA is the cheapest thing to do. It cost us $100 here (we didnt turn it into insurance) at the Michigan IVF clinic, which is a very good hospital, so I couldnt see it being much more anywhere else. Also, they will let him do it at home and take it in.

Good luck Wednesday!

Thats pretty cheap. I thought it would be alot more. There seems to be a lot that goes into it.

The clinic I'm going to has a lab there. So, I'm hoping it will be fairly priced. It is 'supposed' to be the best clinic in Central Fl. So, I hope they live up to the hype.

They said that I can expect to be there from 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. Does that sounds about right to you ladies?
