Abdominal And Lower Back Pain, Neg Testing
Posted: 11-30-07 15:13pm

Approximately 4 weeks ago I noiticed a mild cramping sensation low in my abdomen. A week later I got my period, which was shorter but slightly heavier than usual. The pain continued but became inconsistant. sometimes a burning on both sides of my lower abdomen, sometimes an achiness in my mid abdomen, sometimes only right side. sometimes no pain for an hour. I also have lower back pain, most recently I have noticed slight feeling of being nauseated (very slight). Also change in bowel movements. Initially less but more freqent (with occasional feeling that I needed to but was unable to), then less freqent, now it varies.

1 week after I noticed discomfort I visited GYN. Pelvic exam-nothing. Urinalysis-nothing. STD checks-nothing. She told me to not eat spicy foods and offered no further help. ...now occasional pressure in head, possibly unrelated?

Visited Dr office where I saw nurse practitioner. Upon palpation I felt sore. Bloodwork - nothing. CT scan-nothing gastrointestinal, slightly enlarged r ovary. she ordered ultrasound for next week and apt with gastrointestinal specialist.

I am concerned because I am in great shape. 36 years (no kids). Exercise regularly, eat very very good diet. No previous problems except for one ovarian cyst in my 20's. I am hoping someone may have insight that doctors have missed. Thanks

To me, it sounds like an ovarian cyst. Sometimes when an ovary looks enlarged, it's actually a cyst behind it. Make sure they do a transvaginal ultrasound, not just an abdominal.
