second laminotomy after leg pain Posted: 12-01-07 05:46am
Hello, People
My mom underwent a disc hernia operation -
a laminectomy - in 2001. After a few
months of bedrest, she was back on her
feet, with all the precautions that a
patient with laminectomy takes. She was
completely fine, and quite active, though
she did get back pains once in 6 months,
she used to do all her exercieses and take
all care necesary.
About a month ago, she started to feel
pain in her left leg - her earlier
laminectomy was for pain in the right leg.
The pain has gotten steadily worse, to
such an extent that she is now completely
bedridden, and she cannot move her left
leg by even 10 degrees. The doctors here
cannot even move her to the hospital to do
an MRI, but they are suspecting that it
may be a re-occurance of her previous
condition.
What i want to know is this - if it is a
disc hernia again, and if conventional
treatment fails, how advisable is another
operation? does it have to be a
laminectomy?? Is a laminotomy doable? Is a
laminotomy advisable?
