Q: Glucose Tolerance Test...

Well, my initial test came out a little high (162) so I had to take the three hour test yesterday. I just found out that I passed it and everything looked great! I am so happy! The last thing I wanted to hear while I'm pregnant is that I can't eat what I want. This is the one time in my life I'm allowing myself to actually eat what I want-within reason that is.

Be careful eating whatever you want within reason. Wink Being on bedrest you can really pack on the pounds. Losing weight after a baby is not as easy as some people wish it were (me, for instance). Only approximately 20 lbs come off at birth, the rest is all work. Sad

It was, honestly, a real shock to me. No one told ME that weight was going to be an issue.

By the way, I'm not saying you have a weight problem. I'm saying I did! Wink

I understand Ingi. My appetite isn't really that great anyways. My acid reflux makes it horrible. I just want to be able to enjoy a sweet treat if I want. I've always had a sweet tooth though. One good thing about the bedrest though is that a lot of my swelling is going away. I'm drinking so much water too that I guess it's helping flush everything out. My doctor's nurse actually told me I didn't need to drink anything but water because of the contractions so hopefully that will help with not gaining so much weight. I know it's gonna be hard work.

Drinking water is really great for the baby too! You know that their amniotic fluid will get all cloudy and milky if you are dehydrated? Blech. It would be like sitting in an old bath for 9 months. But if you keep up on your water intake and keep yourself from getting dehydrated, that amniotic fluid will stay clear and clean. Wink

Yay for water also keeping the swelling down!

Yeah, after three trips to L&D to have contractions stopped they finally put me on bedrest. I've still been having contractions on my meds but now my doc thinks I shouldn't go in unless I'm having more than 8 an hour. What a tard.

Well, it's 100% when I'm having problems, which I am right now. The contractions started up again last night and I've been having them on and off today. I guess my body's getting used to the meds now. My next appointment is Thursday but looks like I will be back in L&D before then. I was 1 cm and 50% effaced as of Tuesday.

I know! I almost cried after the nurse told me that. I just think it's ridiculous that my doc thinks it's okay for me to sit at home as long as I'm not having more than 8 contractions in an hour.

Which is why I think you should go see someone else. There is absolutely NO harm in a second opinion by someone else.

Do it today Wink There is absolutely no reason for you to live in fear every single day and have your doctor dismiss it that way!! It is insane. I'd be on that phone so fast making sure my health and that of my baby's was OK - the receptionist on the other end would probably fear me. Smile

I think we need to be our own healt advocates. You have had so many problems with pre-term labor. Is your doctor even discussing why this may be happening? What is your risk level? Why aren't you seeing a perinatalogist? It all seems like they are fairly dismissive about the whole issue! Are you having weekly doctor visits now coupled with contraction monitoring?

A lot more should be being done. I think sending you home and barely mentioning bedrest (allowing you to get up when you feel fine? UNHEARD OF!) - just you and some procardia. Not good, sweetie. Not good.

Well, I would have done it yesterday but around here no office is open to even make an appointment on Sundays. I haven't even gotten to talk to my doctor since all this started last week. All I've heard is what he passed on to the nurses at the hospital and his office. I have some friends that work at the hospital so I'm going to call them up and ask them who might be a good choice to contact. I really don't know any other ob/gyn's and I don't want to go in blind. I know you're looking out for me Ingi. It's just hard when you've trusted a doctor for so long and then feel like that trust is being ripped out from under you.

glucose test
ok, well i have a question. when is it too late to take the 3 hour tolerance test? i read that you have to be around 24-28 weeks and rite now i'm already 33 weeks pregnant. i somehow refuse to get the 3 hour test cause i don't like needles and plus i already have 9-10 blood drawn from me (i've been counting)... is it even nessesary? my doc told me that i was 160... and when i drink the juice, i could feel my blood rising.. so rite now i don't think i should do the 3 hour test... but any seggestion will help though.. thanks..
