Continual Protection With Nuvaring? Posted: 12-08-07 01:51am
I just started on the ring about two and a
half weeks ago (love it so far, but really
too soon to form a solid opinion on it)
but I was wondering how the pregnancy
protection works after the initial 7 days.
Assuming you do everything correctly, are
you *always* protected once you're on
NuvaRing? Specifically... what about the
week you take it out to have your period,
but *before* you actually start? And,
when you put it back in after the week
break, do you have to wait any amount of
time to be protected again, since it's
been out?
And, I was also wondering.. I know you're
supposed to put a new one back in at the
same time of day as you took it out.. So,
does that mean if you're some amount of
time late in putting it in, that you're
not protected? And if so, how many hours
would that be?
Thanks so much to anyone who can help!!

Hi.
The reason why you are protected during
the 'ring free' week is because the
hormone levels have built up enough so
that ovulation will not occur and you can
have some bleeding.
You are ALWAYS protected while you are on
NUVA RING.
You should try and place the NEW nuva ring
no more than 12 hours later than the last
time. So say you put the new ring in on
Sunday 10 am, you should not put your next
ring in later than sunday at 10 pm,
otherwise you WILL need back-up for 1
week.
You DO NOT needs back up for the first 7
days of every ring.
