Can Anxiety Affect Your Period? Posted: 12-08-07 21:44pm
I have had an ongoing period for about 2
months now (varying in strength,) and I
was wondering if anxiety can be a major
factor in that? I actually have always
been quite irregular, only getting about
four periods a year, but I think that is
due to weight, but I assume anxiety can
definitely affect the cycle since if
affects so much else.
Thanks!

Yes I think stress and anxiety can affect
your period. But I would still see a
doctor about it if is worrying you

I was told by my GYN long ago that it sure
can. You can actually miss a period due to
stress according to her.

The last time I had my period was the same
day I had a major anxiety attack (last
month). I'm a few days late with no signs
of my period showing up. I usually get
cramps, bloating and "the feeling" in my
stomach a week before my period but I've
had nothing so far. I guessed it was due
to the anxiety.

yes anxiety and stress can delay and even
make you miss a period completely

I suffer severly from anxiety. Before i
was on medication, i sometimes wouldn't
get my period for up to 4 months.

If you've had your period for two months,
you should probably go to the doc. There
might be another reason- endo maybe, or
something else. Best to get checked out.

I definitely think anxiety could cause you
to have an extremely long period. I do
believe I am having some major
stress/anxiety issues that have been going
on for about two months, and my last two
peiords have been the worst two I have
ever had. I have very, very regular
periods, but I always have horrible craps
that basically incompacitate me. But these
last two have make me physically sick,
shaking, and felt worse that having the
flu, plus cramps. And I'm still
experiencing my stress/anxiety issues, but
I just started two days ago, and my cramps
were back to normal, but I do believe that
my flow is a little lighter than normal.
And I had extremely sore boobs about three
days before my period, and also a lot of
back pain. I have never experienced those
two symptoms prior to this stress ordeal.
So, moral of the story is stress/anxiety
has obviously changed my cycle, so it's a
great possibility that that is what is
affecting you. You definitely should head
to the doctor though, two months is waaaay
to long.
