Hair Loss After Pregnancy Posted: 12-08-07 21:53pm
Hi girls,
I was just wondering about everyones hair
loss after they had their baby. Mine is
falling out terribly. I know that you
loose hair after a pregnancy, but I just
feel that I am loosing more than I should.
I can pretty much pull it out in clumps
after washing it in the shower.. Chandler
just has to grab it a bit and he ends up
with handfulls as well. This morning I
freaked when I was washing it and then
pulled my hand through with conditioner as
I had a huge handfull of hair. Should I be
starting to worry as Chandler is 5 mths
next week? Is it maybe time to talk to my
doctor?
Thanks,
Mary

i didn't even really start losing mine
until finn was 4 months old. it worried me
too because it seemed like i was losing
way too much, but it's normal. for awhile
my hair was all over the house, it was
really gross.

I've actually never heard of losing
hair.In fact everyone that I know that
have kids have always told me about 'baby
hair',which is just new hair starting to
grow.I got the 'baby hair' myself when my
son was first born but now that he is over
a year I am noticing big chunks of hair
coming out in the shower and I'm
constantly cleaning out my brush.I know my
hair loss isn't from pregnancy though.
Sorry I can't really help you because I
had the opposite problem.

Yep! Happens to me all the time although
that could have something to do with years
of colouring....... Anyway, it didn't
happen straight away but when Mika was 2
months old maybe

Hi, changes in hair growth in pregnancy is
actually normal or physiologic. During
pregnancy, the growing hair phase (anagen
phase) is increased compared to the
resting hair phase (telogen phase). This
anagen state is due to the estrogen and
androgen levels. However, after the
pregnancy, thses effects are lost and
shedding becomes prominent. Your
condition is what we call Telogen
effluvium which decribes the abrupt hair
loss seen 1 to 4 months after giving
birth. the good news is that the process
is self-limited. Normal hair growth is
usually restored in 6 to 12 months. If
hair loss persists, then there may be some
hormonal problems going on.
The products you use on your hair may also
cause hair loss. I also experience severe
hair loss. Normally we lose 30 to 100
strands a day. That's normal shedding.
In my case, my hair got so thin that my
scalp gets sunburned easily. After a
while, I changed all my hair products and
now I'm using products from Forever
Living. These are all natural products,
without the harmful chemicals found in
most shampoos and conditioners. What's so
great about forever living hair products
is that the main ingredient is aloe vera.
Aloe vera nourishes our hair, scalp &
skin. It has over 200 vitamins, minerals
and amino acids that we need for cell
regeneration. Now my hair loss is within
the normal limits. I don't have itchy
scalp like i used to. you can send me a
message if you want to know where to get
these products. They're available in
about 127 countries worldwide.

Has anyone ever heard of losing body hair
after pregnancy? I have 5 kids and never
noticed losing hair afterwards but after
my last pregnancy, (4 months ago) I have
been losing body hair. Any input or
advice would be appreciated!!
