Q: break through bleeding between my periods - tubaligation undone?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 11th, 2007
I had a D&C done back in October but i have still been having break through bleeding between my periods. I went for my follow up in November 5 weeks after the D&C the Doctor did all kinds of test and says everything was fine . I had a tubaligation 5 years ago is it possible my tubes have become untied ? I experienced very bad stomache pains for about a week then they went away then i when i awoke 2 days later i noticed light blood then darker blood later during that day but not enough to soak a pad then it stopped and it returns every morning. Could you tell me what this is ?

It doesn’t seem likely that your tubes have become untied. Even if this did occur, it wouldn't manifest with bleeding between menstruations (spotting). Rather, untied tubes can manifest with an unwanted or unexpected pregnancy.

If the patohystological report of the endometrium reads ok, that means that there is no organic reason for the spotting: tumor, infection, hyperplasion… therefore, the blood that you are experiencing in between cycles could be functional in nature. Functional spotting is due to a hormonal imbalance. You can consult your gynecologist about this to request further diagnostics and to learn about treatment alternatives.
